Based on Territory platform, awd straight gas i6 four door ute would be awsome for work.
The poll should be do you think, not will they do it, no one knows unless they work at Ford. |

I'd buy one, but I'm not a tradesman.

you guys obviously dont remember the R5 concept....
http://www.trueblueford.com/FalconR5ute2.html it never went into production as the territory was a lot more important then.. it might be something they're looking at with orion, but who knows.... anyway, i voted yes as they've already done it |

My answer will be no, cus of Ford U.S. troubles, meaning they'll have to keep costs down.
And the fact it'll eat into courier sales. Plus there wouldnt be enough room at the back for comfort (as what people have said with the crewman) unless ford slightly shortens the tray at the back...similar to what AnthonyQLD did, or like the sport-trac concept by ford u.s. In the end it'll be cool if it were built, and i'd want one ot be built as it'll increase Ford's lineup, but being realistic, i doubt it |

Who knows! I recall reading an interview where Tom Gorman said "it would be nice to do one in the future". That certainly isnt a yay or a nay, but its enough to get the forum stirred up I'm sure!

They have an older model proto type at the discovery centre they won't build one when even Holden arn't selling enough (I wish the proto type had gotten off the ground it looked great I would have got 1)

I don't think there's much point. For a start, the Crewman's are ugly. Secondly, they don't really seem to be a very popular choice seeing as the only times I can remember catching a glimpse of them on the road is dressed up with lights, sirens and a closed-in back. Other than divvy vans, no one seems interested in them.
Although, if a Ford four-door ute was built, I'd be hoping that the chassis would be extended to allow for the extra cabin space, rather than just chopping back the tray, like Holden did. The tray on the Crewman is so short, I'd be lucky to fit my ego in it, let alone a selection of tradesmans tools.

obviously different regions of Australia view cars in a different way. in this little town there are quite a few of these Holden Crewmans with room inside for everyone, the fishing equipment and the dog in the back. most importantly, a V8 option. i could see myself driving a FPV modified four door ute but alas i live in a real world. to answer the poll, i doubt they will.

No chance in hell. Crewmans sell a few hundred per month, and Ford aren't going to throw millions of dollars at a niche model that only sells a couple of hundred per month. That idea died after they realized the Territory could outsell the R5 4 to 1.

They are a couple of AU Crewmans around. A converted wagon with the tub off a ute. I would like to see Ford to produce one, but I doubt they will.
The BA / BF gets the RTV. So what about making a 4 door version of that car. They would be the way to go or use the Territory platform.

I voted Yes out of sheer outright hope,
That said to do it right would require a loooong chassis so that it can still have a 7ft tray or styleside. But most importantly so that the rear seat passangers did not have their back over vertical, Have you sat in a crewman, the rear seat is uncomfortable even for young kids. Best part of the concept if it was to become real would be the real ford engine instead of the mazda's in the couriers Straight six for torque, a decent deisel, maybe a turbo and the V8 for the Enthusiasts

whats wrong with a F150 club cab? who needs another itty bitty ute where the tray is only good for 2 cartons and the back seat is made for 3"long people

Why not stick to a Courier 2WD Dual Cab??? Maybe bring out a flasher model in the Courier might help, with the seats out of the falcon? Something to consider, rather than have a useless back seat like the Crewman....

I was sold on the R5 concept when it was on show. I was in the market for a car, and it just stuck with me as the car to get. I asked ford at the Melbourne car show if I could put an expression of interest, however they didn't have one and it was a concept only. Ah well... Though I wouldn't buy one today - i'm in a different car market - but back then - certainly.

thats why you have the commercial vehicle to do the tough jobs, and a sports car for the handling on the weekends not that you need handling with our local speed limits enforced by hundreds of cameras - mind you i wouldnt mind that new Courier even for weekends, the new one looks good - they are using the WRONG diesel though, i hope Ford Australia realize they should be using the PAG 2.7TDV6 which would then make it outsell the Hilux and Navara..... but that would be common sense wouldn't it.
2007 Courier 4x4 TDV6 and 6 speed manual, hmmm that would be one tough little truck. |

Yer but i want something like a cross things. I want the comfort of the falcon not the ruff courier. Trust me i work in remote areas and use 4x4 all day every day. Courier is one rough bit of gear.

Ford were asked whjen they brought out the R5 concept if they thought of producing a 4dr ute. They said it wouldnt sell enough. I spose they have the courier and F-range, as well as 2door utes n rtvs.
I keep wondering when 4wd/awd from territory will appear in a falcon or ute. I think GMh have some fancy laser cutting equipment they use to hand cut the crewman doors etc, must cost a bit per car. One thing i cant work out is crewmans with "van" canopies over the tray, everytime i see one i think why not get a station wagon or adventra or something? |
