Love the interior!! Love the backend of it (without the spoiler), no so keen on the front end.
Saw the real thing on the road a couple of weeks ago. The window line is VERY high. So high you can only see the driver and passengers head from neck up. The rear passenger was almost invisible. Very skinny windows.

Hows this for hypocrisy. Fellow members you will agree that the media response to the AU back in 1998 was (in terms of how the thing looked) ho-hum AT BEST and some unsavory words at the worst. Now Benz is taking some obvious cues from ye old AU and the media are lapping it up claiming it's the best thing since sliced bread. Don't get me wrong the Benz is a looker, but give the AU and its designers the recognition they deserve for making a car so ahead of its time.

side profile: roof line is similar, how ever its much lower giving it a tougher look.
rear bar/tail light/join in rear bar/rear 1/4 are very similar. how ever looking on it from the rear, the angle of the car is way different. i know which one i'd rather have ;)

At first I thought that was Casper's new body kit.... LOL.
I was behind one of these (standard one) last week, and thought at first it was an AU, until I got close enough to see the star.

loved the CLS back in the design days around 99/00 when the first prototypes were revealed. this one is hot (except for the rear wing). The Brabus rocket is nice too. To be honest the AU has the same similarity to the CLS as the kia copy of the WRX.

They are a very nice car to drive, my grandparents are tossing up between one of the CLS's or a E350, we have test drven both. CLS has a very odd driving position comared to the E350, the E350 is simply a great car.

I tried to go off the wheels and nose for proporation. It looks terrible, but you can clearly see how much bigger the rear end is than the AU, which is really the only likeness, apart from the round shape of the cabin. The Merc photo has a bit of a rear angle, so maybe that elaborates it, too.

Just visual evidence of what a sensible roofline would have made the AU look like...
Infact, I reckon if Ford could do the AU again they'd make it significantly longer (not quite Fairlane length though). They didnt have the balls to do a passenger sedan that was longer than the norm, but you can certainly see how good it could have been. Anybody game to photochop? |

Interesting idea, here's a quick cut I did:
Extended the boot a little, moved the rear wheel back a bit, redrew the lower rear door line and re-did the roofline slightly. Edit: Also raised the bootline and lengthened the rear light.
