Thumbs down VE Commodore - vote NO!

Poll on www.drive.com.au

Will be heavier than VZ
May be thirstier than VZ (can't be more economical)
May be slower than VZ (not enough power increase to combat weight increase)
Not enough local content. Jobs for Aussie workers I say!

The main reson i voted no was my car is only six months old with just under 5k on the clock so i cant see myself considering a new car for quite a while.

Does anyone here study/remember Economics?

Without competitors I can't see Ford making better vehicles in the future?

Will be heavier than VZ - It might then also be safer. Would much rather safer cars on our roads
May be thirstier than VZ (can't be more economical) Where did you read that? Nothing official just yet. Remember that most modern engines are becoming much more fuel efficient, and yet increasing power
May be slower than VZ (not enough power increase to combat weight increase) So? It might have more USEABLE power lower in the rev range - hence increased fuel economy.

And last but not least - DOESN'T THE BF WEIGHT MORE?!

Quote:
The next Commodore will have roughly the same size interior as the current model but its exterior dimensions are said to have grown by about 15cm to accommodate new safety equipment (such as "curtain" airbags) and more stringent side impact regulations.
The WHOLE article has been writen with "said to be" all over it. Nothing is confirmed. Wait till it is released before you bag it out.

I'm all for the VE! Don't you see a pattern happening?

The VT was a great car, and the AU wasn't so good. So, Ford increased R&D costs and created the BA. Now, this was then better then the VX/Y. Now the BF is still better then the VZ, so Holden increased their R&D to create a better car then the BF. Which they have, the VE. Now just wait for Ford to release their new product, which I'm sure will again be better then the VE.

Bring on the competition! We need it for technological advances, safer cars, more equipment on the standard list... and most of all - to keep the price of cars low

competition improves the product.

Voted yes.

I voted No. If Ford do not make a product worth buying I will just keep my current ride. As for Holden, call me bias, whatever, could not force myself to buy one. Don't like them, never have...........

If rather other people drive LESS safe cars, Thats way i have a higher chance of survival.

A test was done with the renault espace one old (3star) and one new (5star). The two car where rammed into each other and sure enough the 5star driver was able to walk away but the 3star drive was mortaly wounded. While cars are getting safer to the occupants they are more dangerous to older less safe cars.

I say give ME the safe car and everyone else a pos so I survive and everyone doesn't.

Please, correct grammer. Took me a while to figure out what you were trying to conjure up.

Now - You rather other people drive a less safe car, that way you have a higher chance of survival?

Well, if you were BOTH in safe cars, you would BOTH survive. I'd rather everyone live.

Also, the 3 star car they were almost dead as they were in a BADLY rated car. If a 3 star car slammed into the wall, the same would be said... they would be badly injured.

As to the VE - I still agree with what some people have mentioned. Competition will add to the next Falcon being better. Doesn't mean you have to buy one...

Anyway - If I was in the market for a family sedan I would just get the best one. If that happens to be the VE, so be it

I voted yes, I'll never disregard a vehicle until I've had a thorough look over.

Anyway, my unbiased shopping habits doesn't really matter, Holden will still sell thousands.

I would consider buying it if I wanted a big family car. But I don't have a family, so I'll continue looking at buying a turbo/import.

I think that posting this thread was alright until you advised everyone to hit no. You know, there may be a fair few people on this forum who are VERY keen to see what the VE Commo has to offer.

It's no different to the concept of a lot of Holden people changing to Ford since the BA was released.

Make your own decisions people.

It will be faster than the VZ. It was worked out ages ago that the VE Exec would have to make at least 200kW to keep the same power-to-weight ratio... if it beefed up 230kg like originally thought. Now, assuming the base VE will add 140kg to the curb weight, it's safe to say it will need to make 187kW to keep the same power-to-weight ratio as the VZ. The fact the base VE will come with the 5-speed auto means it will be even better.

I know Ford went their own way with AU and got burned. I seriously hope they dont follow Holdens lead here. Bigger, slower and thirstier is not the way to go. Not saying Falcon should be smaller, but more effecient and no heavier is the way to go, like BA vs BF. Let them brag about extra room and boot space but watch customers rum from the higher fuel use over their previous models. Like 380
