I have had a quick look and can not see anything on the Exporer in this forum

Or is it that I didnt look hard enough?

I had an explorer for several months, traded it in quick smart, took several months to save for the fuel to go back to the dealership

As far as anyone else is concerned they never existed. Not good that you have an issue but if no one here owns one then its kinda hard to help...

I'm sure we could have a "useless car" section. I seriously doubt anyone uses the explorer efficiently. It's hardly a Sunday racer, and it's too big to park, too ugly to look at, too expensive to pull a burnout, too sloppy to go around a corner, too slow to stop and generally too expensive to be buying in the first place.

If you're talking about the older 4.0 models, get rid of it, and quick!

I think thats a narrow point of view. They do exist, we own one. Other FPV owners also own Explorers, the later model is a good car.

Thats true, the last one isn't half bad, but if you want advice no one here will be much help, I bet the ford dealerships know jack so your best bet is looking at a US site.

Was that the V8 Explorer ? a friend of mine has the last 4.0 V6 model, he says it gets 14L per 100 around town.

I think they are far from useless. We use ours as our family car and for towing, 2003 model 4.6 V8. Plenty of room, best sounding V8 in a FWD, 7 seats and is more fuel efficient than my outlaws AWD Territory.(not by much)

If I have to agree with anything, pre 2002 models where not flash and also did not have a good name.

Yeah, I was considering an explorer, but couldnt find much info on here and all the reviews i read seem to edge towards the conclusion they are POS, especially the older 6cyl models.

I guess this is a FORD FORUM, and a section for the explorer would be helpful for owners or potential owners however if there isnt much of an audience for discussions about them, then having a section is probably pointless.

Our V8 uses 15-15.5/100km. My outlaws AWD Territory uses close to 17l/100km. A couple weeks ago we went down to the Mogo Zoo, south of Batemans Bay, and we used 10.2l/100km.

I actual fact, uses less fuel than my BA GT-P when I owned it.

mate i work for a warranty company and we call these things a Ford Exploder because there a heap of and something is always breaking on them, stay away from them

When I was in Canada we hired a new explorer, and admitidly it was alright.

But thats about it, for a rental its good. And wtf is with having such a big (any) compartment in the 2nd row seats?..lol Cant Americans go 10mins without a coke and hotdog.

That's quite good for a V8, i personally like the later model, it has plenty of room and and about 200 storage spaces and American gizmo's.

I don't know if this guy is gone, but did anyone point him to just ask the question to the problem he was having... twas a bit mean... even if the explorer's can be comapred to a 60's land cruiser....

I personally don't mind the look of the last run UT- UZ Explorers. I could see myself driving a V8 Limited. Bit more room and 2 more seats (7 seater) for the kids over the Escape. Bit more in fuel too mind you. Guess it's what you're used to with fuel of course.
I'm guessing that you haven't much good to say about your experience Laminge? Didn't you call it the "Porn Bus" or something like that?

i recon give the explorer its own section along with the Taurus there both heaps of ford australia wishes never were exported here. thay recon the explorer is a 4x4 its gearing is crap its got ifs front suspension with torsion bars like an old valiant or vw beatle. point them over 10o and the fuel pump turns off we are for ever pulling then out of the car park in to the work shop because of that. i would rather buy a land rover for less coin just as much room and more comfort. there not called exploders for nothin

They were nicknamed Exploders because of a problem the early one's had with the oem tyres (firestones) fitted to them were blowing up.

The suspension is no different than a 100 series Cruiser, Australia's largest selling 4x4!

Never heard of the fuel pump problem, but there's not many places up here to do over 100 anyway.

Your a tough marker, everybody has a story about a heap of crap. We have owned our Explorer since new in 2003, now has 55000km, original tyres, never missed a beat with the best sounding V8 in a 4WD, and the only warranty issue we had was a recall of the gas struts in the glass tailgate, repaired during our 30000km service.

But lets use your methodology. My neighbour picked up with Blueprint Zetec Ford Focus from Keira Ford Wollongong. Within a week the motor was missing and gearbox all but failed, shall tell everybody to stay away from them? I dont think so. Stick to what you know..........................

Don't waste your energy on the keyboard ADSGTP, you like me are lucky enough to own a V8 one and can appreciate it for the competent car that it is. If my Mrs and kids are travelling somewhere at night, and it's wet or "black ice" is about, I feel better knowing they are in the Explorer.

And BTW, some Mustang V8 performance parts from the States can be bolted on as well (a future project of mine)...

Did research on the UZ Explorer and came away impressed. Great cruiser and family vehicle compared to its competitors re Discovery (previous model) and Prado. Independent rear suspension, excellent V8 and safety second to none, especially for back seats where my kids sit.
Driveability has been compared to the X5, which is top shelf. UZ also looks the part. Considering a 2 yr old V8 Limited can be got for less than $40k, I wish they were still importing them. For the equivalent priced Landcruiser, I'm afraid the options just don't stack up. As for off road ability, well there is only bitumen around Warriewood, where I live.

Asked for feedback from this site and only got positive feedback from owners, which are the ones that count.

They didn't sell for a reason, even if the lats one was that good it was too late.
