Default New police tactics for Springnats?

Found this on another forum. Are police going to be impounding all the cars they find to be unroadworthy this year?

Its another great reason to take a rental.

Simple remove plates and rego stickers while on the trailer and tell em its an unregistered competition car!

Either way why the do they do this to the guys trying to enjoy they're chosen hobby in a controled environment instead of nabbing the midnight yobbo's?

Its not to impound unroadworthy cars. It even says what it is for in the article.

READ THE ****ING THING before all the whinging and moaning starts. This is how everyone loses because bull**** spreads like wildfire.

It the new anti-hoon prvisions that have been in planning for for Victoria for years. It is similar to Qld. First strike is a week (or whatever), second strike is three months, third strike its taken and a magistrate decides what happens to it, the only certain thing being the owner doesn't get it back.

The article says "This act provides powers to Victoria police to seize, impound or immobilize vehicles that are involved in the violation of some safety laws. For example hooning, dangerous and careless driving."

What's to say they dont consider other roadworthy items as deeming the car unsafe and trying to impound it?

What is the point of swearing and carrying on like you did?

last time they considered cruising up and down the main street 'hooning'
sounds like grounds for impounding to me.

pulled over for 'hooning'
roadworthy check
impounding

Chill out and think about the whole history behind this event and you can understand why the whinging and moaning starts!

Was it last year or the one before where the cops got people to take cars off trailers to weigh them and make sure the weight was within the limits of the trailer and started to defect the cars once off the trailer!!

Any wonder why people are suspicious?

A mate has had a bit of experience in this area, and gave this advice. They can defect car on trailer if, they ask you to remove the car off the trailer for a closer look and you comply. If it remains on the trailer and off the public road they cannot legally defect the vehicle. Just remember if the police officer encourages you to break a law it can be termed aiding and abetting. Word of advise. If you are required to remove a trailered car on a public road then simply refuse on the basis that you would be breaking the law, and as such this is something that should not be encouraged by a law enforcement officer!

Sounds pretty logical to me.

Last year we pulled up chairs for a few hours and watched the police pull over people on the main street.

It was good entertainment watching the locals harass the cops for defecting a stock VR GTS for a wing that obstructed vision.

I can’t understand the police, FAIR ENOUGH if there is a car that is seriously unroadworthy but for the majority that get picked on for a loud exhaust or "hooning" what a load of crap. Its the same as easternats, people are going to these events to be off the streets, organiser makes money, people with stores there make money, car enthusiasts spend money, and the police and epa are waiting out the front to make money!! Makes me wonder why the even hold these events, simple if you dont go they can’t get you. Seriously sick of this happening. Whats "hooning"? Having P plates? a nice car? driving on the roads at night? Maybe they mean "cruising" suppose it doesn’t sound as bad. :

It's all about money.. I hope there is a loophole that allows you to sue them if your car is "seized" as you would be ****ed if your late model car worth a few $$ is taken.

You can just imagine once these laws are brought in state-wide, the tow trucks lining up in South Yarra with the evening Stonnington traffic units. We're lucky we don't have NSW's laws yet.

Same like police taking cars that are suspected stolen/cut shut, leaving the unsuspecting new owners with nothing and no money (seen too many crying faces in my business).

As for BAturbs reply here, he has a few police friends that's why it was posted as it was.

Probably for the same laws as in N.S.W. If you do burnouts on a public street or area you deserve to have your car taken away.
It would only be a yard full of VN/VLs anyway. Glad to see them off the street.

It has to do with the kind of statements that dansedgli has made after (not) reading the article originally posted. It was suggested that just because the article DIDN'T specifically exclude defecting cars then that was probably one of the issues being targeted. C'mon, that's just simply paranoia. These new laws that I spoke of in my first post that will be brought in to "target hoons" are coming, nothing to do with roadworthyness of cars. It so well publicised its even been in my local paper. If police are targetin unroadworthy cars, then this article calling for tow truck tenders has nothing to do with it.

Look at the car I drive (sig), I'm not on the side of the concrete head traffic coppers. I am against informed and pointless whinging on the internet. How much notice do we think legislators are going to pay to this thread? That's right, about as much notice as I'm going to pay to the next installment of the Napisan Chanllenge on Kerri-Ann tomorrow morning.

Until someone is prepared to stop whinging, grab the reigns and lead the fight, then we are stuck with whatever stupid and draconian laws the government want the police to enforce.

Sorry if I am passionate about this. It is not intended as a personal attack on any person in any way, shape or form.

What statements did I make before you flew off the handle? I dont think I whinged at all. I just posted an article i found somewhere else.

I find the actions of the police quite humourous at the spring nats. It surely doing nothing for the event, the town or the reputation of the police.

You would have to be stupid to even think about driving a half modded car there and back. We literally sat on the side of the road for 2 hours watching cars get pulled over and defected one after the other.

The reasons some people get angry about things on the internet are beyond me sometimes.

How on earth can they defect a car on a trailer ??? providing the trailer and car towing the trailer is in RWC !!!

That is just plain ridiculous, i would rip the defect notice up in frony of them and tell the "see you in court"

I beleive police do have the power to put your car on a tow truck if they deem it necessary. Was having a friendly chat to a traffic cop at my friends workshop (they work on cop cars), and was explaining to him how i got a defect about a week prior. He told me that if the car cops a major defect notice, that police do have the power to put your car on a tow truck then and their depending on how unsafe they think it is, which in other words means if your being a smart Ar$e :P I don't think they can impound it tho....
