I was quoted for a full exhaust system and extractors.
They said something about HPC heat protection colour or something like that. Is it necessary? |

you only need/want it on the extractors to reduce heat in the engine bay and against the firewall
the rest well you dont need it as its under the floor and you dont feel much heat down there due to air passing by do a search has been discussed a fair bit before

Between $150-250. For extractors.
Rocker cover is ~$100. Pacemaker actually come with their own HPC, although it is not done by the company "HPC" or the like. Although it isn't as protective as getting it coated in HPC or Jet-Hot. Cheers

heat wrap on the other hand decreases the life of ur exhasut system due to trapping all the moisture in when it gets in and rusts away!
thats what my bro tells me who worked at genie for a while till the shop changed hands and they laid off almost everybody(he was 1st year apprentice engineer)

HPC coating isnt a "heat wrap".. water cant get under the coating.....
its a ceramic coating used to keep temperatures down under the bonnet.. its not "necessary" but its worth getting to keep wiring from melting :P.... |

It is only a ceramic coating. Although there is much more to it.
Pacemaker's own heat proof finish, which is what gives it that Blue Look, is rated to 1270 degrees. HPC & Jet-Hot give it that chrome finish, and have a much higher temperature range. HPC or Jet-Hot would set you back around $200 to coat a set of Extractors. Here is the Jet-Hot website: http://www.jet-hot.com.au/

Makes me wonder if an aluminised finish would be better . I used to work at a place that made ducted heating and they had the machine/oven that baked the ceramic finish onto the heat exchange in the ducted heating units, this was all the go for many years until they discovered that an aluminised finish was more effective and cheaper ! . They have been using an aluminised finish ever since .

I should also mention that the HPC or Jet-Hot, does much more than just reduce heat and look good. They are also corrosion resistant, and last much longer than Chrome or Hi-Temp paints.

HPC coating does look good and protect the extractors, it also as said keeps under bonnet temps down, but as it is a thermal insulator it keeps your exhaust gasses hotter for longer. This helps with gas flow and scavenging since hotter gasses are less dence. there is suppost to be quite a performace benefit to getting it done. :

HPC doesn't mean the header will be ceramic coated, it stands for "Heat Proof Coating" and the standard pacemaker header has it. Its a black paint that is applied to the header and has been tested up to 1270°
It costs $350 extra to get your Pacemakers ceramic coated. Pacemaker use Ceramic Coat Australia, which is a division of Pacemaker. HPC also stands for High Performance Coatings, the company that does do ceramic coatings, and I think it's a little irresponsible that Pacemaker use the HPC acronym that might lead people to believe they are getting that companies coating on their headers.
I have HPC - the ceramic coating - on my Herrod headers and fully recommend it.
