I've had a mouse die somewhere in the wall of our kitchen .. I live in a 28sq home which I don't use half of and it decides to die in the half I use!! Anyway, does anyone know of something super-industrial to either mask or absorb the smell .. it's really getting to me .. but doesn't seem to worry my wife? BTW: I think I know which wall it's in but not where in the wall so I can't start cutting holes and whatnot ..
Thanks, Rod. |

you sure its not under or in the back of the fridge? we had this same thing happen to us once and just before dad started cutting holes in the walls he decided to take one last look around and whaddyaknow he found a dirty great stinkin rat in the drip tray underneath the fridge.
Just a thought :hihi:

Get a few oil burners happening within the house.. and burn something you both like..
Eucalyptus oil is a great all round one to burn as it will smother any yucky smell but it will also help to keep sickness at bay..

I've tried the oil burners, Glen20, spray fresheners, etc .. only work for say 30min then the smell is back.
Unfortunately I'm sure it's in the wall 'cos I saw it in there. I heard it scratching about so got in the roof and checked down the wall (steel frame house). I could see the mouse but couldn't get him (he could run in between the steel beams) and he couldn't get out. Now he's dead I don't know where he is in the wall .. :( I thought maybe charcol (spelling?) or some sought of crystals to absorb the smell (the worst of itis from the wall adjoining the sink cupboard) Rod. |

cant you get it out with some wire etc from up in the roof??
The only way to kill smells is to remove the odor, in this case removing the mouse / rat is the answer.

Well now you got a hole to put a big spot light into, might give enough light to see the dead mouse from the top?

You said you last saw it there alive. This may happen again and no surprise its in the vicinity of the kitchen. I would ask a pest control specialist what they might think the best approach to get this one and guard against re-occurrence. |

get in the roof with a vacuum cleaner.
stick the tube, with the vaccum on down the wall and swing it around until you feel it suck up something. :

I put our chihuahua in her harness and lowered her down the cavity on a strong rope, but she was useless. I ended up repainting the wall, that seemed to cover up the smell.

I reckon if your wife doesn't mind the smell, she might have a permanent gas leak from behind, but isn't telling you ..
