Hard Rubbish - What have you found?

Hard Rubbish Stories - One mans trash is another man treasure.

This thread is inspired by another FF member who has just got a job picking up hard rubbish. What a cool job.

What bloke can't go past a pile of crap without some sort of look see, right?

Its like chicks and shoe stores....a bloke just has to look....just to see what's there.

A few year back my wife an I had just bought our house and had no money. Hard rubbish collection happened in our suburb about a fortnight after we moved in. We collected a old n crappy lounge from down the street which did us wonderfully for 2 years. When we asked the owner of the house if we could take it and she said "Go for it....and if you want it you can have this stuff as well". She gave us 3 little cabinets and a tall boy...woo hoo....

We also came across and old dresser in the next suburb I spotted as we were driving by. We used as a kitchen bench and storage unit (those big drawers swallowed a heaps of kitchen utensils). 12 months later we put in on E-bay with no reserve and ended up getting $78 for it.

I also came across the greatest little shoe shine box. I'm sure it was a kids woodworking project but I'd give him an 'A' - its a ripper. The lid flips up and all. Best bit was when I opened it up it was full of shoe polish already !!

I have put some stuff out over the years and I swear half of it disappears before the council comes and picks it up. I spotted a bloke last year with his tandem axle trailer piled high wood off cuts. I asked him what it was all about he said he was collecting fire wood...I thought that was a brilliant idea!

What stories can you share about your hard rubbish adventures ?

What have you put out on the nature strip only to have it disappear an hour later?

I used to work at a rubbish/recycling yard.
Looking after the pumps/tanks etc,we would turn green waste into methane then electricity..
The guy's working in the sorting room used to find alot of stuff,everything from electronics and phones to cash,and a heap of women's "toy's"......

About 8 years ago my mate and I went on a "scab grab" on hard rubbish time and we picked up 3 home made pocket bikes - weren't working but didn't take us long to fix them and start tearing up mum and dad's 2 acre property - had loads of fun and still pull them out every now and then - best score we ever made!!

Apart from that, whenever we stick the stuff on the footpath, rest assured 3/4 of its gone before the council arrive... Saves me having to go to the dump....

I picked up a sofabed for when friends stay over! It's got a few rips but we just cover it up when not in use. It used to belong to the UniBar at Monash Uni, but they were throwing it out, so I went into Monash with the trailer on, and loaded it up. Bargain!

The stereo in my garage came from the hard rubbish last time I was working there (this time two years back). That was a good score, but the CD player is a little knackered now (still served me well) so I'll be keeping my eye out for a new one.

A set and a half of golf clubs (nothing flash, but they do the job) which have seen many a ball out on the high school oval next door to my place when the boys have been around and we've had nothing to do.

And when I was cruising around in my old XF Panelvan, I had two indoor tower speakers (with the three different sized speakers in them, whatever they're called) laying down in the back which took my $180 Sony headunit and stock front speakers from craptacular to the pimpinest car stereo I've ever had.

My bedroom wall is laced with bar mirrors (Geelong Footy Club, Paul Stanley from Kiss, Johnny Walker Black Label to name a few) which were undamaged and in need of nothing more than a quick scrub to shine them up (thanks, Mum).

I love working on the hard rubbish.

Locally, I've picked up an old Sony car amp from the council pickup, tested it out and it wasn't working. Checked all the fuses. We took it to the local boot market that weekend and sold it to some guy there buying and selling audio gear for $80.

A friend also picked up a window air conditioner, all it needed was a regas.

Just a tip for Sydney scabbers, the Shire is the best place to scab during council pickups. Everyone is mostly well off there and like to get rid of perfectly good things. Stuff like a full Technics stereo hifi system, with powerful amp, tuner, cd, turntable, tape deck and 8" main driver floor standing speakers, with a empty 7.1 Bose surround system cardboard box sitting next to it. My bedroom is LOOOUUUDDD now.

Also old but sturdy furniture also gets the flick as well. My garages work benches are courtesy of Sutherland Shire residents.

I picked up a Futong couch all it needed was a new mattress. Computer bits and pieces. Sell it on ebay.

It's around my area at the moment. In the past we've picked up computers, laptops, sterio's, bikes, furniture, car parts, car audio (cd players, amps etc), 2 old postie's bikes and all sorts! Even ended up selling some of it after i'd finished with it, and making profit!

There's some seriously good stuff out there that ppl jst don't want and don't have the time to try and sell.

My dad once found a canoe while doing his weekly trip to the tip. Went back that night with my brother all dressed in black to flog it.

Spent about a month patching it up and giving it a new coat of paint, then took it down the creek. Sank like a rock.

yeah we got a kayak from the good ol dump...needed some tlc and it floats great just need some ores (or however you spell it)

anyone know if tville has a hard rubbish dump?... i want/need something new

Hard rubbish time is the time that I hate the most. I have a boat, in my front yard, and although it is chained down, I worry that, with all the cars coming up and down my street, someone is going to tell someone else, and the Boat will disappear, it is insured although.

I did get over a Gig of Ram for my Music server out of thrown computers. It all worked too. My old stereo, and speakers were from a Cronulla Pickup.

townsville rubbis dump is south in the bruce highway, just after the copper refinery and meatwork, thuringow has another on harveys range road out towards rangewood, cant miss either, just follow the smell

there is also a waste transfer station out on the bruce highway heading north, just afte rthe bohley turn off

when i was in perth visiting a chick it was summer and hot as haha i was ****ed the whole week i was there. anyways we needed an outside fridge because its way to hot in a fibro so i went for a stroll and found this an old old kelvinator said on the front door it works well. so i go back home and ask a few of the blokes at the party we were haveing to come give me a hand all were too lazy so i went back layed it on its side and slid her up the grass back to the house stood here up and pluged her in and what a ripper still going now over 2 years since i grabed it the chick has since built a nice new house and keeped the old beer fridge. we left the works well on the front but went with some custom deftones album art on the side

Back in high school we went to this guys house who had mass bulk rubbish he was our age about 15. At the bottom of this we found a huge pink DILDO about 35cm long and about 4inches wide. My gosh it was funny and all these porn cd`s and stuff.

Wierd thing is the only people that lived here were this kid. and his GRANDMAR!
