Default Do truck drivers know how high their rigs are?

Sitting at the lights the other week, heard a gawdalmighty crash! There was an overhead railway bridge about 30 metres behind me, with a semi-trailer roof stuck in it. Semi made it through, though! :thebirds:

The company I work for had a driver who jammed a tautliner under a bridge once - he was banned from driving for 5 years for the company.

Hahaha that's funny stuff. I wouldn't be surprised if the driver had done that route every single day in a smaller truck too. Poor bugger, one lapse in concentration and it's probably cost him his job.

Ahhh we had a better one here in Nelson Bay.
A few years back a truck with a backhoe on the back decided to go through nelson bay and go under the bridge one of the only roads to shoal bay/fingal bay.
What happened was the backhoe caught the pedestrian bridge, and pushed it up then the whole bridge fell, a huge concrete mutha, smashed i think 2 cars that were parked noone was hurt but darn it was a huge incident. will try to find some pics if i can.

Sounds melodramatic! Let's just say the traffic bloke had different priorities, and decided to leave his post, and not be there to direct traffic away from the truck and the officers investigating.

Sounds like a case of "I'm bored..hey what are those blokes doing that looks like fun",or maybe it's a case of dereliction of duty.

Anyway Swanny your here to tell the tale, mind you if you got his number, well you know what can be done internally.

max height a truck is alowed to be is 4.7m high otherwise they need to have oversize permits and be restricted to a specific route. did the bridge have a sign on it stating the max height allowed to go through.
we had a situation where we had a few huts that were getting damaged from trees ect. while they were being transported - we do them all the time, but for some reason we had three huts get collected, then after the fact we found that the customer gave us the wrong details and the huts were actually 200mm higher than what he had stated, thus we had to get oversize permits ect..... a very expensive F-UP by the customer.

Default 4.7 Metres High

Over here in Vic, the max height for a vehicle, without a permit is 4.2 metres high.
