Just moved from Kingaroy, Qld (most famous for some now deceased former Qld politician that may/may not have done some random things a few decades back, who despite the rumours, never grew peanuts) to Atherton.
Packed up the AU ute and trailer, headed north 1700kms and after 21hours I was here. Fuel econ was pretty dismal, never topped 430kms (ODO + DTE) from a tank but I guess it was to be expected. This is a pic of the loaded ute (the tray is also loaded up). I was tempted to drive it onto the weighbridge at work to get an idea of the weight I was towing, but it was closed at 3:30am when I left Kingaroy. In the end I was happy with how the ute went. Only slight issues: 1. When I had the trailer on and I hit the high beams the lights cut out, maybe it was a problem with the trailer lights overloading the circuit breaker. I haven't checked it since. 2. Coming up the Palmerston Range between Innisfail and Milla Milla I got the temp light to come on, which was to be expected towing the weight I was and going up a 6-7km long 8 degree incline at 90-100km/h @ 4000rpm... I'm glad I wasn't in an EA.... Apart from that it was a great trip. Stayed the night in Townsville on the floor of my mates hotel room (I'm sure the hotel people thought we were gay). Now I just have the crappy job of unpacking all my stuff I have dumped on the rear patio and returning the trailer to Cairns tomorrow...!!! Dan...

I am an ex-South Aussie (sometimes think of going back- then remember the cold weather there lol)... Good luck with settling into Atherton, hope all goes nice and smooth..

Re: ute height, I personally was glad it wasn't XE with OEM suspension towing a 20' caravan ride height! The heavy duty rear leaves did help with ride height (or maybe you just have convinced yourself that cars should all be equipped with SSL's from factory...) Dan.
