Hi Guys. Another question. Is there a change in the remotes for the smartlock, fitted to the EA Fairmont Ghia,,and the remote as fitted to my AU #1 Fairmont.? is it possible to modify the EA type if there is a difference? They look the same but I have been fooled by looks before. Also I need an operators book for the AU,in any condition, hope I am not asking for too much. All power to the blue oval. Thanks I J Cam

Hey mate,
I can't answer your question specifically, but I can tell you that I used a smartlock remote from an EF, and programmed it to be used on my S1 AU. So it should work. As you probably know, it's just a matter of programming the remote through learning mode - no physical changes should have to be made. If you don't know how to program already, a search should find a thread outlining the sequence of reprogramming the remotes. If you can't find it, post again or PM me, and i'll tell you how it's done. ecca |

EA's never had Smartlock. Its got to be some sort of aftermarket remote. The EB2 was the first to get smartlock which is the same remote all the way through till the AU1 update (Au1.5) that changed to the newer remote.

Hi Casper, you are correct, the EA has been fitted with the remotes, computer etc. from an ED and was done several years ago by the local Ford electrical dept. and has been trouble free ever since. I have obtained 3 remotes for this car and they still work OK with the EA.
Using the method in a thread here, same as the Ford manual,I reprogramed these 3 remotes to suit my AU. Problem starts here .the 3 remotes wont operate the AU and as expected didnt work with the EA ! the AU remote still works OK. I put new batteries in the remotes and they are identical to the AU in looks, both inside and internally, eventually, much hair tearing later I reprogramed the 3 remotes back to the EA and they are OK there. Would have been easier to have gone to Ford and just bought another AU remote, isn't hindsight a great thing. Still has me tossed though.?????? Thanks I.J. Cam |

Beats me. We had an EF remote programmed for my AU so unless something changed between ED and EF I cant really explain why its not working.

EA never had remotes smartlock started with the EB2 and ran till AU1 and all the remotes are the same . the AU2 saw the introduction of smartshield with different remotes this is still the current standard but i'm not sure if the remotes used in the BA will work on the AU 2/3
