Default Couple problems with my AU I

i posted this in the common problems thread.. but i don't know of anyone actually read/responds in there anymroe considering the sheer size of it...

I'm having problems with my air con in my 98 Futura...

sometimes the fan won't turn on.. at all.. but if i turn off the car.. and back on.. sometime it works.. the longer i leave it off.. the more chance i have of it working...

also when i press the a/c button.. it doesn't stay on... as soon as ai take my finger off the button the light goes off and a/c disengages....but the a/c max button works fine... any idea on these faults??

also my brakes a sqeeky after i release the hand brake... i'll drive for a little while and they squeek and it eventually goes away.... any idea whats causing that?.. other then those things.. the car is running sweet and is very healthy for 230,000 km...

there is a circuit board that runs the switch and all knobs.. it is a pita to change and isn't cheap, but if you take note of where all the vacuum lines go it isn't an overtly hard job just time consuming

Mine does similar sometimes if the fan speed switch isn't fully in its stop, ie 1, 2, 3, or 4. Thats on an AUII ute.

ok.. another update.. for anyone else who has this problem...

i've pulled centre dash out.... including the climate control panel thing..

it's not a simple fix as i was hoping... but as mentioned above.. it's an entire circuit board type thing... and dear as poison from ford... so i'm hoping to find a second hand job from a wreckers somewhere....

as for the fan... the motor was just stuffed.. so had to replace it...

As for the brakes, I dare say its due to the amount of dust in the air, and how dry its been. Build up of crap on the brakes.

I thought our fan had died too when we suffered similar symptoms.. however after disconnecting it and testing it we found that it still worked. I also noticed the use of stickytape on the wire connected to the fan.. so this may be a common thing. If you haven't checked whether its dead properly, it might be worth trying
