Default Which is the biggest nanny state?

Reading the thread about the sleeping hoons, got me to thinking which is the biggest nanny state, WA, SA, Tas, Vic, NSW or QLD. In other words, which state has the highest concentration of politically correct upper middle age bureaucrats making all the rules.

I visited Victoria recently and it cost me $215 for doing 70 in a 60 zone plus 3 points. In WA it would have cost $1000 and 1 point???. mmm.

So don't hold back, which state has the laws that protect you the most, because you are incapable of protecting yourself. Feel free to share a personal account of how the law has protected you from yourself!

it shouldnt cost anything because you shouldnt have been speeding in the first place.

theres no state that doesnt not favour the criminal..
someone breaks in hurts them selves they sue you,
someone hits your car and drives off you pay excess and lose your car for some time,
someone bashes you senseless they get 4-5yrs on the rare occasion and your a vegetable
burn an australian flag, pee on it and whatever and your asked to carry the flag in the anzac day march or something....its a bullet to the head in other countries
steal a cop car under the influence after breaking into cop station and stealing stuff and get off with a slap on the wrist.

justice....law....pfft its all about the size of the fat cats wallets

In my travells I have noticed Prictoria has been the suxor place. I got booked by a hidden speed camera in the tunnel on the m1 (*beenleigh tunnel ring a bell?) the speed limit went from 100 to 80- the sign was posted on the wall of the tunnel so i tapped the brakes and rolled down to 80
but to mr flash for cash in melbourne thats not good enough, you need to be doing 80 before you pass that sign. so i got pinged something like 92 or something in an 80 zone. I cant recall exactly because it was back in 2001 or something. and you dont get a comlementary picture mailed to you either!
:( ah well. I wonder if i would have been booked for slowing down to 80 straight off 100, and probably would have had any number of tailgaiting motorists up my rear end.

I think its more the Councils that are starting to make people feel like they're living in a police state. There are too many restrictions these guys are coming up with. Everything is going crazy at the moment, OHS, equity. where will it end??

Is there a reason you forgot the ACT?

They'd win hands down in the "highest concentration of politically correct upper middle age bureaucrats making all the rules" contest.

Victoria is no longer a nanny state. Nannies are responsible individuals employed and trained to watch over and keep safe firstly, and to respond to and avert trouble secondly. We now have robots and baby monitors doing this role. The Police can't even keep their stations open here let alone watch over you. I wouldn't care if their was a cruiser (hopefully an XR) with a laser gun on every road. At least they can exercise discretion unlike a camera. They can also suspend booking to do all the other jobs we expect or hope our Police will do. Tenix operators can only sit in the car and watch the police and ambos speed to the accidents. It's way to sad to be called a joke.

Victoria gets my vote
How can councils make rules re: what you can and can't do on the roads? Do they have a big sign: Your are now entering Geelong (for example). Turn your music down or you will be booked.

Easily Victoria. The fact you can be booked for doing 103 in a 100kmh zone is just plain ridiculous, given that the speedo has a 10% margin of error. Also, unlike many other states, there are no warning signs for speed cameras. They just try to be as sneaky as possible. I'm fine with cop cars, but am hugely against speed cameras.

Having lived in VIC, QLD, NSW and now the NT. I can say that the NT have more freedoms and common sense laws than anywhere else in this country. At least for the moment. The east coast latte sippers are trying to take charge and Clare seems happy to let them. But I still would not want to live back on the east coast.... yuk.

This shouldn't even be a question.

As stated earlier, Victoria's gone far beyond being just a nanny state. Victoria's a state where the Bracks thought control machine has bread an entire state of drones.

It looks like George Orwell's Big Brother was written about Victoria under a Bracks government.

Geeez , is it really that bad in VIC. I must admit that every time I drive there, other drivers tend to look terrified to be out driving. With no demerit worries about my license, I might be a bit more relaxed about driving there. I feel sorry for you guys down there in Mexico.

People really are drones down here. It's freakin scary driving on our roads with people who are way too busy watching their speedos instead of the road.

Council ranger in N.S.W looks after parking now. The councils get a big cut of the money raised by parking fines & have they gone to town inforcing parking laws.

Elaborating on my post before about how I am fine about cops but despise speed cameras: Cops are fine because they can dismiss people going 3kmh over and do something about the real speeders. Also when they catch a person speeding, they give the fine straight away, so you know that you've made the mistake, and can be more careful next time. Recieving a fine in the mail a fortnight after the offence doesn't work so much. People have to think hard about what they did. (and no, I have never been done by a speed camera but I've been booked by the cops)

On my annual tour I cringe everytime I cross into Victoria as without a doubt your guys are being brainwashed.

Its so farcical leaving either SA or NSW on the highway at 110 and as soon as you cross into Vic its 100 on the same frigging road. Then every few k's you now get bombarded with have a powernap sign. Whats the go, can't you guys drive a few k's without nodding off.

Between the constant BS signs and trying doing 100 on a perfect road it's a real PITA.

Then to top it off you can get pinged for doing 3k's over the limit, even if your speedo is out new from the factory !!! Give me a break.

Problem is there's some great country to see
