I want to do mine black but cant bring myself to put paint to the interior incase i stuf it up. Also things like the headlight switch/rollers for the vents you can't really paint as they have writing/dots on them. I found a second hand au1 interior and was going to ask how much but not sure if it would fit an au2? Also if i painted my interior black and got the black headlight switch im worried that there would be too much of a colour difference between them.

Yours looks good much better then before... did you paint your fabrice armwrest or is it vinyl?

Also it doesnt look too black or is that how its ment to be.

i took the whole door apart and painted each part seperatly.
the only thing i bought was the power mirror botton/switch/knob housing and knob from the wreckers for 15 bucks from an SR. so its black even with the little white lines and lables.
the arm rest is vinyl, and i used VHT vinyl paint on all the soft parts with a vinyl protectant coat on it. the hard plastic parts i undercoated with a grey primer and went over it with the VHT vinyl paint so the shades match, with the same protectant coat.
takes ages to paint though :(

dont be scared of doing it! can always wash it all away with enough chemicals and paint stripper etc.

the photos were taken with me phone so the colour dont show as well as it should.

That doesn't sound too great.. paint stripper on the interior. It doesnt seem to even like water.

Nice top effort! When you get that dash done, you'll love the darker interior.

I used VHT vinyl paint on the old vinyl in my XE and it just needed a small touchup on the arm rests after 8 years. It does not fade etc, and once dry, can be treated like normal vinyl (armor-all etc). I would wait a month or so before hitting it with armorall though. And it takes about a week to get rid of the smell too.

The paint is actually a dye, so it penetrates the material rather than sitting on top like paint does. It's good stuff. Don't be scared to use it - the only hard part is the dash, but I believe Falkeen did his with the dash in the car!

Looks good! My interior is in good nick, so wouldn't have to do anything for a long time.

To be honest I'm glad, bc I'm not that good with painting. I admire those with good painting skills and steady hands.

Yeah Im thinking about it but more concerned about the rest of interior... arm wrest fabric, carpet, seats all the bits that will still be grey. Wouldn't it all look out of place if the dash and all vinyl is black while the fabric is all grey?

Can vinyl places re-trim it black.. if so does it usually cost much?

au-steve, the cloth part on the door, how hard would it be to replace that? I'm thinking about re-trimming my interior, dark tan seats, and same color trim in the doors. Obviously if I could do the doors myself (I question my aility to re-trim the seats myself) I could save some money.

hey there,
I have replaced the trim in the doors of my falcon, well not really replaced because it doesnt just pop out and you cant just replace it.

I had to cut my choice of trim to size by making a template with newspaper, then cut out the trim, i used a vinyl sort of thing... looks nice i will post pics if you like. then i had to use a paste on glue and painted the existing trim with it, then put the trim over that, and had to poke the edges in with a spoon ( best tool for the job!! )

I was going to peel the existing trim off but after taking half of the rear trim off, i realised it would be very rough, due to to the old glue being all lumpy and crusty!

ask if you want pics

anyway here!
http://www.geocities.com/sfr_rob/door3web.jpg

I will probably change the color if/when i chose to paint the interior!

thanks dwayne!
Hey i know it is a good job! hehehe,
i often pause a moment while driving, and think to my self:" I have done a good job on the trims" .
:
But the worst part of it, is the dang smell the glue made, i did it on a 35 degree day, so it was very tacky afterwards, and gave me the biggest headache while driving for a week or 2!
cant imagine what PAINTING the whole interior would do to my brain cells!?!?!

catch ya'll

sfr_rob - that colour blue looks great with the grey, and will also go with dark grey or black, I reckon. I went a lighter blue, and used an old knife instead of a spoon.

that looks very tidy JC!!
I want to get the same door handle set up as you, the chrome looks very tidy!
I saw on aufalcon.com how to do it, how much do they cost?
what was the process you used?
did you remove the old fabric trim before you put your new trim down or??....

i just saw, minginators door trim on aufalcon.com the perforrated blue trim looks kinda dodgy, but the herrods emblem looks nice.

peace
rob
