Default Potential FPV models

As a flowon from the "tempest" thread, lets have a bit of a hypothetical section and toss up some ideas as to what pre-existing models FPV could have a play with and add to the lineup.

Apart from the usuals like the Territory and XR5, what would you like to see come out with an FPV badge on it, what could/would/should be different about it to the normal models, and why?

I for one reckon a FPV Fiesta could be the go. Before you laugh - imagine having an Aussie equivalent to your Golf GTI's etc, and with fuel prices the way they are, the average punter would line up to buy one. 4cyl turbo with a 6spd manual box and some decent styling cues, without the Euro price tag.

fiesta is too small. i like your idea, but with the focus used instead.

i think ford should look at a limited edition run of lightweight typhoon & gt models with extra kw. much like the holden tealer team spec r8's. lightweight wheels, semi slick tyres, harder suspension, 350kw, couple hundy kilo's lost. wouldnt have to be big sellers, just a performance flagship model. even ferrari needs limited edition models like the enzo, why cant ford do the same?.

as much as a fpv territory or focus sounds good, fpv have to be careful not to become modifying whores.

i'd personally like a limited edition FPV that comes as a blown 8 and actually sounds like a v8 from the factory. This would represent the pinnacle of Ford Australia performance and therefore wouldn't have restrictions like (needing a flash tune).

Maybe keep the same BF look however if visually possible, design it as a broad-backed coupe.

Forget all this stuff about XR5s and Fiestas and stuff.
We need the GTHO to turn up!

Something with 'wow factor' like a GT based MONSTER TRUCK!

Holden can have their blimp, ford can have live shows all around the country with D. Johnson at the wheel crushing a row of commodores!

This is pretty much what I reckon. It would give falcons as a whole an image boost, just like evos and STIs give lancers and imprezas an image boost. FPVs with a couple of kilos lost would be pretty quick, and with extra power and torque as well would be awesome. :the_finge

*wedgy shaped small sedan( 121 bubble sized 4 seater) based on Fiesta underpinnings with de-stroked XR6T (3.2? 220kW) motor, mounted transversely, and XR5T 6 speed manual. Typhoon junior look, extremely light weight- commision the panel manufacturing to China or India for low cost and high profit margins. Imagine darting in and out of trafic with that!! ( The Fiesta and Focus are solid FWD platforms so they can handle that power). Mini Evo-X looks with IosisX front end.
*As mentioned in Tempest thread- Sequential twin turbo F6 variant-bring back the power-band!
*Supercharged 3V motor (stroked to 351 Cu. in hehe)- would be more useful and lighter than TOSS 290. ( use Mustang alloy block), or more aggresive VTEC/ VVTLi style VCT/ continuous cam profile switching.
Theres some suggestions. FPV arent as bold and intent on leadership as they were in 2003; Do they ever read our suggestions on the forums?

Yeah FPV shouldn't touch RS I agree!

Why on Gods green earth FPV didn't just rebadge the XR5 I dont know. Seriously, there are alot of people outthere who would want two FPV's in the garage, but what thy dont want is two massive fuel bills.

A FPV falcon for him, and a FPV Focus for her. And then if I was the "him" Id take the Focus for a blast every now and then too.

For alot of people out there its about the badge. A XR4 and XR5 (renamethem for FPV if you wish) would have been the perfect entry point for people who want to be associated with the brand.

FPV admitted they wanted to expand the range, and yet they have another perfect opportunity and they let it go, again!

If the VXR is good enough for HSV then I dont see what their problem is.

Other than thoe two, a LWB would be god but we all know whats happening there, unless a savour as come along.

Territory is a must, gees they could even just use the Turbo Terry's drivetrain and give it some spunky rims, lower it a bit, throw some FPV seats in and a good body kit; done, easy.

I don't think they should do an FPV Fiesta - its just too small and wouldnt have a good enough chassis behind it.

An FPV Focus on the other hand could be good (especially to compete with HSV).

Though personally I would never buy an XR5T Focus due to its 2.5L 5 cylinder engine (i.e too big) and the fact it is the heaviest of the hot hatches - not real conducive to a small fuel bill if you ask me which is the main appeal of going to a hot hatch from a performance sedan. Hot it up further with FPV and the fuel bill will only get worse sort of defeating the purpose of this type of alternative performance car. So unless FPV can keep the combined cycle under 10L/100km then I vote no.

I'd like to see an FPV mid-sizer, maybe if the Mondeo ever comes.

I agree, add to that carbon fibre bonnet and a light weight body kit, and rip out all the luxurys.

See but thats just the thing, FPV dont have to do ANYTHING to the XR4/XR5 other than rebadge and re trim the seats. Thats it, so easy.

For those of us on planet Earth, we know that FPV dont have the time nor the cash to play with the XR4/XR5 drivetrain or chassis; and they dont need to because they are a well setup up bit of kit!

GM do this all oer the world, it works for them, why the hell ford doesn't I dont know.

The problem now is that the XR4/XR5 will never be part of thr FPV family because they didn't do it straight away like they should of. It cant be a ford product one day then an FPV the next.

I agree a rebadged XR5 would have been nice to see. Ford may have felt that it would have pushed the price higher than it is now? (what with the additional work/cost involved in sticking the badges on and all at Fords rates.....lol).

Photn, your enthusiasm (sp?) is great, but mate it will never happen.

I dont know how good a 2.3T AWD Fezzy would be on fuel anyway. If the UK doesn't do it then we dont, its that simple.

lol thats why this is a Potential thread lol hehehe. i dont expect there to ever be a 2.3T AWD fez....the only other fez that ford will bring here (performace wise) is the XR4.....

it was also my understanding that thFPV badge should only be on Extremely Performance cars....

to tell you the truth an FPV fiesta is a bit sad......for theFPV focus a new bodykit a flash and bigger intercooler and FPV leather badged seats and BOOM..... Instand sales...thats all thats required....the hsv astra has like 168?? kw or sumthing and the SRI turbo has like 162 or sumthing rather.....but still nothing special that cant be gained from a flash.... if ford pumped the focus up to say 170-180kw hehehehe huston we have liftoff....

Thats the thing - a boosted up, AWD (read heavy) hot hatch is going to chew the juice big time, which I agree, would make the car irrelevant. Hot hatches cant lose sight of fuel economy otherwise you may as well buy an Xr6T.

Bring back the hardtop!
Its gota have smooth sleak lines, and room for huge rubber.

I also like the idea of a quick fiesta. Something like the Colt Ralliart thing Mitsu released.

Ok, here's my thoughts of what the FPV lineup should include.

FPV Fiesta - Polo GTI competitor
FPV Focus - Golf R32 competitor

FPV Mondeo - Mid range weapon when Ford AU release it

FPV GT
FPV F6 Typhoon
FPV F6 Tempest - 350kw Flagship Performance Model

FPV Force 6
FPV Force 8 - Both of these vehicles with more Euro styling, more options, more Senator appeal, more BMW appeal, if you get what I mean...

FPV Galaxie - LWB limited edition

FPV T6 Territory

FPV F6 Tornado
FPV F6 SuperTornado
FPV Pursuit
FPV SuperPursuit

FPV Mustang - Limited import edition

Other than that, I don't think they should squeeze the juice out of anything else. All these models have potential performance sides to them, the rest of Ford's line up (not that there is much) don't really.

That accounts for 14 models - didn't I hear somewhere that an FPV official quoted there'd be about 16 models in FPV's lineup by the end of 2008?

I reckon FPV need 2 more models (not real keen on an FPV Terri, each to their own):

1. FPV Focus- Bigger brakes, 240hp, full bucket Recaros, EVO slayer in the same light as the Focus RS (which was much quicker than a rex)

2. F6 Typhoon on steriods. Nothing against V8's but I think that the Turbo 6 would be a lot easier to build to be a GTS slayer. 350kW+.... :Up_to_som
