Default NextG LG Flip Phone

Cant recall exact name sorry, but as its the NextG (upgraded CDMA network, not to be confused with 3G) anyway, the next G handsets only have about six phones available and this is the LG flip phone.

Anyone else have one yet and have you used to to connect to your laptop to get net access???

Few questions if you have, thanks kindly

(will be back later to check replies, have to dissapear for a while)

Thanks But that wasnt really helpful.

Ive actually only had nokia before, but because I need CDMA, and its being upgraded I had to change handsets. (I have till the end of next year but my old handset had died)

Nokia dont actually have a NextG handset brought out yet, there are currently only six available so I didnt have a whole lot of choice

Go the Jasjam IMO... well, was defiantely the pick of the bunch when i was looking. Some dont spend that much per month tho, so weigh that up. Some people dont want a PCC either... but very easy to set up as a modem... access through NextG, wireless or dialup.

If not keen on the imate, id prob go the motorola before the LG... but thats just personal opinion...

BTW NextG is kind of 3G... its the same idea, but on a much lower frequency (850mhz instead of.. errr... 2100 IIRC)

Yeah too late, I did look at the IMATE, but was a bit too thick and big for what I wanted it for.

And yes, realise that they are sort of the same, but work in different areas, and the handsets you can get for the two differ completly, like i said, currently only six for the nextG at the moment, and a stack available for 3G. 3g doesnt cover rural areas at all though :(

Do you have nextG or 3G?

Ta thanks

I have NextG. I think the imate is capable of 2100mhz 3G, but obviously no need for me to try it out.

The explanation that i have been provided (on these very forums!) is that the lower frequency of NextG allows it to reach much further distances compared to the 2100mhz 3G.

Yeah they are saying the nextG coverage will eventually be better than CDMA is Hope so!

At the moment I find that it covers most place where I previously had CDMA, but hopefully it will keep on improving.

I only learnt how today how to hook up the laptop to the net via it, instead of using my home phone line (im on dial up) and its great, really fast. (well compared to my dial up which is a slow 32kps)

I need to check the cost though on how much it will be as Im sure its hidesously expensive?!

Im on the $79 cap and get $450 of text and calls with it, but it doesnt cover data so need to look into the price.

Ive been thinking of getting the nextG network card to access the net with, as I need mobile coverage, and so far all the network cards have been slooooow or dont work where I need them too. (hence keep going back to old dial up account when Im at home)

Yeah, ease up on the data useage!! I think it's 2.2c per kb if you dont have a specific data pack enabled. $5, $8 and $29 packages not only give you a data allowance, but significantly reduce the cost charged per kb.

$5 data pack = 1mb of data and additional charged @ 0.5c/kb
$8 data pack = 3mb of data and additional charged @ 0.26c/kb
$29 data pack = 70mb of data and additional charged @ 0.20c/kb

LG does work with your lappy. There is software on the CD that installs the drivers. It will fight with EVDO software so remove it first.
The is a software fault with tem if you want to use the in car kit. They think they are attached to a headset and behave accordingly.

The fastest handset is the Motorola V6. It is about twice as fast as all the others.

Only the V6 and the Jimjam can do 2100 and the V6 is locked to telstra when you get it. The chinese crap, LGs and Samsungs only do 850/900/1800/1900. The cheapos do not do HSDPA either.

I have lots of these things.

But according to telstra the Motorola V6 are not NextG, they are 3G phones and cant be used with the NextG network, which is what I use. (3G does not work in the areas I use my phone)

Yep they work ok, I have two of them. The only prob is the software if you want to play in car kits.

I agree, I have the V6 maxx on the NextG network, and it's smokin' on transfer, browsing and Foxtel. Fastest mobile I have ever owned.

I have tested an LG, the only real problem I could see was that:
a) it did not charge when hooked up to my lappy via the usb cable
b) it sucked the a** out of the battery when operating on HSDPA

The Next G network is 3G and runs on the UMTS network as the GSM 2100 stuff does, it just that it uses 850mhz all the the time, instead of the old school 3G that ran on the triband range and edge network along with EVDO and the likes.

the 3G 2100 network will die a sure death along with CDMA and the current GSM network. so if you had to get a new phone, one that runs on the 850 range would be what you would get, ericsson have a couple but don't advertise them
