Thumbs down smoke in se melb

the smoke here is at its worst tonight, its so thick you can feel it in your nose and throat. the house smell like smoke as if the fire was outside. i rang a mate at marysville to see if theyre ok, he tells me the shire of murrandindi is pretty much surrounded by fire now but theyre determined not to let it spoil christmas for the kids. they have got all the important possesions packed ready to go.

My parents are from Maffra in Gippsland, so they are near Cowwarr and Toongabbie where a lot of the fires were. They said last Thursday, the smoke was that bad, it was dark by 3.00pm. You'd have sworn it was midnight, but it was only 3.00!

Meh, walk out my back door and all i can see is blackened bushland! we had nice big 20m high flames 10m from the back of our house, with only me and my dad there with garden hoses, we got lucky with a fire truck just turning up in time and a change of wind direction... i have had 2 showers since and i still smell of smoke :(

Yep, it was deliberately lit. The police had two suspects, but then found they were innocent. The two boys had seen the smoke and dialled 000, so they did the right thing. Wherever the sickos are who started them certainly deserve to be cremated.

Best friends dad is in Heyfield (10 mins or so from the fires). She was talking to her dad today and he said it was just so dark up there and he could hardly see anything through the smoke.

4am yesterday (thursday) morning I was outside (i'm in Lilydale) and I could smell smoke pretty thickly. I'm overlooking the valley usually and I couldn't even see past the next street (as in, one house then a road distance away). It looked so awesome, it was creepy as. Because of the smoke there was all these strange shadows (coming from one street light below mainly) and an eerieness to the whole place.. Then I could just see a house covered in christmas lights. It was like a scene from a horror movie or something like nightmare before christmas. If I looked up though I could see the stars (we're on top of the hill) and a few were pretty red.

Yeah it was pretty much all fine tonight. Cleared up a lot during the day, but the early morning was just crazy, didn't feel like the same world, lol.

There's a bit of hazy smoke over the valley, but I sat in our paddock up the road and watched a nice sunset without much smoke blocking it.. I can see toolangi from my house across the valley (well, at least that big arial thingo on top of the hill, so it's gotta be around there somewhere, lol), have fun with driving in the mountains!

I was at the beach last night.

It was amazing the smoke hit at about 9pm and the beach disapeared. You couldn't see very far at all. It was spooky

Aparently The Pines flora and fauna reserve was on fire last night hence all the smoke.

We are in Mordialloc and as we travelled down Nepean Hwy last night the smoke got bad at Parkdale.

Sorry for all the highly specific Melbourne suburb thread to all non Melbournites
