Ok. I may be flamed for this, but what is so bad about the first picture? It just looks like the ship is transporting a smaller ship.
And dont worry, i get what happened with the last couple of pics!

I'd say the center of gravity was well above the metacentric height.
An inclining moment was caused by a force, be it wind, wave, the rudder (ship turned) etc etc The ships righting arm was not great enough to counter the resulting heel, and over she went. |

Maybe the first pic was to show how things should be carted by that big boat before showing how silly they were to then put something too 'high' onto it!!
Don't know.. just guessing e

The first photo in the HMS Nottingham being transported back to England after they crashed it into a submerged rock of the NSW coast a few years ago. Every dodgy fisherman even knows about that rock, how they hit it remains a mystery!

From the website: The Netherlands Antilles semi-submersible heavy load carrier M/V MIGHTY SERVANT 2 (21,162 gross), Singapore for Cabinda, capsized in lat 00 48S, long 104 20E, Nov 2. The 1983-built ship, owned by Belgium-based offshore heavylifting group Dockwise, had a crew of 20 and was carrying an 8,790 ton offshore production module at the time of the accident, which reportedly occurred in calm seas. The ship is currently on its side in 35m of water, with 5m of its hull still above the surface. Divers searching the vessel discovered the bodies of 2 Dutch & 2 Filipino crewmen inside the vessel, and the search for a remaining man has entered its final stages inside the wreck. This was a very impressive, huge & famous vessel. (Wed. Nov. 3 1999) UPDATE: An uncharted rock probably caused the capsize of heavylift vessel M/V Mighty Servant 2, and the loss of 5 lives, in Nov. 1999. The ship's owner, Belgian company Dockwise, says a new, specially commissioned hydrographic survey of the area near the Indonesian island of Singkep has discovered a "single isolated pinnacle of granite directly on the ship's course." The rock is not on existing charts. BUGGER!!!!! |

At about 10 p.m. local time on May 8, 2006, a 7th Bomb Wing B-1B Lancer based at Dyess AFB, Texas, made a wheels-up belly landing on runway 31 at Diego Garcia, skidding 7,500 feet down the runway. The aircraft was landing at the end of an 11 hour ferry mission that started at Andersen AFB, Guam. During the landing, the B-1B caught fire and emergency crews extinguished the flames. The four-person aircrew escaped from the plane through the overhead escape hatch. The aircraft was finally removed from the runway 4 days later. The Air Force Accident Investigation concluded the pilots forgot to lower the landing gear. The USAF estimated the damage to the B-1B at $7.9 million, and the damage to the runway at $14,025. RBRM and those old SEABEES made one tough runway, that's for sure! For those of you who've never seen a $285,000,000.00 bomber on the deck, here she is:

Edit: The ship in that photo is the USS Samuel B. Roberts. It was damaged when it ran into a mine in the persian gulf during the Iran-Iraq war... according to Wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Sam...s_%28FFG-58%29
