Default Decent PC driving game?

Hi guys, its been a while since Ive played a decent driving game and was wondering if there was anything worthwhile out there?
Something recent as Ive purchased a new videocard and 20" LCD and would like something impressive to show it off.
Also nothing like NFS or similar as driving games based purely in night-time annoy me.

lol. Dude get NSF Carbon. (I know you said no NFS). I haven't played computer games for a long time but got addicted to this. There is a good variety of cars you can get from tuners, to exotics...and of course muscle cars. And the sound...oh the sound!!.... from the muscle cars had me hooked. Finished the game in 3 days. (wasn't until the second day that i realised there is a career mode) :

Yeah but I played the demo and wasnt very impressed, I'm over night-driving from the Underground games and I find the drifting in Carbon to be not as good as Underground.

Give gtr2 a go if you want something with half decent physics and pretty good graphics.

Grand Theft Auto - San Andreas. A bit different to those already mentioned, but great fun!

If you havent got it get GT Legends, its an awesome game and pretty cheap now. Realism is top nothch, Sound is awesome, graphics good and its pretty fun.

And if you love Cortina's youll love GTL.

I'm with fullthrottle on this one! I hate driving games - I prefer to shoot **** & blow stuff up. The wife bought me GTA3 + V8SC2 + force feedback steering wheel & pedal set for the PS2 for my birthday and I've never opened any of 'em!
But I played NFS Carbon (on PC) at a mates place the other day -- friggin awesome!

V8 Supercars 3 is a piece of crap. Bought it from EB last year, played it once, promptly returned it to swap it for another game.

Test Drive 7? Is it out yet?

Flatout 2 was quite a fun game, took a few days to complete everything too. It's a racing game at heart (forest tracks, city tracks, suburban tracks etc) but the vehicle damage engine and the physics are fantastic, so you can have fun smashing up the other cars in the races. There is great variety throughout the game as far as cars, tracks and events are concerned, and it's just generally a heap of fun.

Test Drive Unlimited comes out Feb 23rd in Aus for PC (until it's postponed, yet again). It's going to have huge online content, and you basically drive around the island and challenge other (online) players to races, buy houses, more cars, blah blah.. i was looking forward to it until i found out the physics model is lacking, and there is no damage modeling. (if this has changed, great).

GTA San Andreas is a great game but old now, GTA4 comes out late this year. You can't beat the GTA series for smash em up, shoot em up entertainment!

Flatout 2 is a cracker of a game. Hard to get hold of for PC now though, even though it only came out mid last year. It's basically (for those who remember the old days) "Destruction Derby" with more tracks. You can do the demo derby arena challenges, which involves smashing the living daylights out of everyone. Or, you can compete in track races in various backdrops, which also involves smashing the living daylights out of each other (but trying to win at the same time). It's a hugely addictive game, my favourite of all time. The damage modeling is SUPERB. There's a place on ebay that sells it, dungeon something or other.. they're in melb.

NFS i became disappointed in since underground 2.. it's just not the same anymore. NFS1 rocked!

It all depends on what your computer specs are, and what video card you're running. I'm running a core 2 duo overclocked with a 22" ws LCD and an 8800GTX 768mb video card. It handles most stuff, but i'm hanging for the games just around the corner, with direct x 10 being built in.

hope this helps a bit.

Well I downloaded the demos for GT Legends, Flatout 2 and rFactor and was really impressed with GT Legends for realism and Flatout 2 for outright fun. Not sure if I'd buy rFactor.

Rfactor i was skeptical about too especially with the bodgy hud and fake cars.
Turn the hud off and look into the mods for it on www.rfactorcentral.com their v8supercar mod is awesome the physics are perfect the team that built it got alot of data from v8sc teams. the f1 is mind blowing and there is just so many tracks and addons for it. worth the small price for it. the online racing is great too. GTL is good i own that too but cant beat rfactor for expandability. once you get sick of the gtl cars nothing else to do with it.

if you like GT legends and want some modern cars look at GTR2.

rfactor as a base game is a bit ordinary but it was designed for the modding community.

Look out for a champ car game coming out later this year ;) the physics and gameplay are going to be some of the most realistic out there ( real champ car drivers working with developer to ensure realism)

This game is well worth it. The car's aren't real, but the physics is astronomically good. The cars come in all configurations (RWD, FWD, 4WD, Front engine, rear engine, 5sp, 6sp, hardtop, GT, turbocharged) and the tracks are quite fun.

You can play online, and compete with others across the nation. It cost's 24GBP to buy the full kit, and you will enjoy it no doubt.
