My dad's AU series 2 Fairmont is on lpg. He's had nothing but drama with it. I drove it today, and it seems to be lacking seriously in the power department.
For example, coming out of a round about, dad says to put my foot down. I did, and it dropped into what felt like first, revved t's nuts off, and really didn't display much acceleration, even when it changed into the next gear up. Had we been in my nog stadard AU S1 Fort, we'd have been thrown backwards like a $2 whore! On petrol, it's not noticeable better either. He's had it at Ford, and at the lpg guys shopNo-one reakons there's anything wrong. Any suggestions? Car has done 140,000km. He has it serviced regularly. I am thinking maybe oxygen sensor, as I can't guarantee it's ever been replaced, but I may be clutching straws. Also, it won't start with the first turn of the key. Mainly in the morning. Second try it's fine. Thanks guys.

Not sure sure on a gearbox, When was it last serviced?
Also I can't be the oxygen sensor cause I don't think it works when the car is on WOT(wide open throttle) |

Someone suggested Catalytic converter.
We had that checked out at an exhaust place and it checked out fine. They suggested a blocked middle muffler, so we replaced it, and it 'seemed' better, but the next day, it turned out to be wishful thinking. Looks like we might be looking down the auto trans road.

if it is happening on both petrol and lpg, my suggestion is check the t/b to make sure it is clean (get a toothbrush - not the wifes, she'll hang you for that!! - and a can of carby clean and spray the butterfly and t/b libberally and brush clean, wipe out with a rag and then give the car a start, it will run rough for a bit, but give it a bit of throttle will soon clear it up). is the air filter clean? if so, then do the tranny. what lpg system are you using? gra or impco? i am gas fitter so may be able to help in that department. also have you tried asking around in the LPG forum?

Yes, it's happening on both lpg and petrol. Got my dad to check what lpg system he has. He says it's a LOVATO Autogas system. Mean anything to you?
He hasn't checked the t/b, and I meant to do it when I went over to Perth 2 weeks ago, but I ran out of time and am back in Victoria now. He said it's going into the dealer to get the Multi Display Unit repaired/replaced on Monday and he's told them it's got no power and to find the problem. We'll see what happens then.

If it revs but does not go anywhere, surely that rules out the engine?! I would be looking at the tranny myself, as others have suggested...
I mean, if it was leads/plugs/blocked cat or exhaust, the engine would not rev properly...
