Unhappy Blown Auto - 10 Months!!!!

Auto in my car (XR), has absolutely crapped itself. I have no reverse, no response in manual or sequential mode, and car kangaroo and bunny hops around in 1 and 2.
It gets into 4 then just goes straight back to 1, also stalls and runs really rough….
After getting it onto the tow truck (when we popped the bonnet), smoke was coming over the back of the firewall, the stench of clutches, fluid and metal burning was unbearable….

10 months, 30000 km’s and the auto went out with a bang (literally), now seeing this is a stock car, leaves me a bit disappointed…

I thought ford was clutches not autos.
On the bright side, it I got the holden I would have had 4 new engines by now…

Anyone else heard of these problems???

How hard do you drive it though? not saying that an XR shouldn't be driven hard but it may have something to do with it?

Mate, car has been driven hard, not denying that, but not constantly belted.
Never did neutral dumps, asked it to change down at rediculously high speed or revs, nor did i strain it and hold back gears etc. i.e. all the things you dont do to an auto..........
When i go for a bang it usually stays in drive, or sports.
If i had flogged the life out of it, more fool me, but with no mods (bar air filter), and not being absolutely kained, it leaves me a bit stunned...

Sorry to hear that your gear box gave up on you. Must of being trying to keep up with the old cast iron that did it :hihi: but it will be fix soon & you will be hooning around again.

Yes i will pay that one!!!! :

But as for keeping up, it was the constant outrunning that did it! :hihi:

Going to trade car in when October release comes out (if the ZF goes in then, fingers crossed)....

Hoping its back by southside cruise, but dealer has to prove to ford the problem, after motor and ECU are checked (stealth mmmmmmmm)....
T
hen mile of paperwork, new tranny sent out and off i go, also getting a service too.

Ironically they underbooked the service department to allow for all of the warranty work that will come in over the weekend!!!!

Figure.........
Cheers!

mate, you boost it up, flog the guts out of it, how'd you expect the auto to hold. I'm suprised it made it back from Melbourne!!

I dont think you'll get this covered with warranty unless you hide the stealth chip!!! or know someone on the inside... :Up_to_som

Stock the XR6T runs 6 psi boost.
I ran the 8 psi program, extra 2 psi - not much, the stealth box took off a lot of the restrictions down low, which is what i wanted, it made the thing go real good purely by better utilizing what is stock under the bonnet.
It just puts another program into the computer and stores the original one in itself.

Got an extra 30 odd rwkw, and best of all, its undetectable.

Seveal days ago i put the computer back to stock - petrol prices.... Box put the stock program in, then that was it, its pure stealth, when ford check the car, they see a bog stock program from when it was last serviced.....

People run around with 10-12 psi boost with the APS kits, when their autos go, more fool them, and more fool me if i went that way and that happened.

As for "boosting it up", thats not entirely accurate.......

Will wait until tuesday until i hear more from the dealer, i am just praying that one - they replace and not repair, two - they do not touch that computer program and motor (as i nail other stock turbos around), three, warranty is honoured and dealer does not give me too much grief...

Yes i drive it hard, who wouldn't???
But before i had this car i had a camry :, got it at 180000 km's (first car), and in 24 months put 150000 km's on it. Drove it fast, and still have it, mechanic says the auto will outlive the rest of the car!!!!
I drive the ford the same way...
Ford just have dodgy trannies, its a pity they aren't jap made, but if they did that, the tranny would outlast the rest of the car.....
Interesting ..
Cheers
Ben

Default Go Power Ford!!!!!!!!!!

Spoke to power ford service department yesturday avo.

Transmission gone (oil pump), and a complete replacement transmission has been ordered, should arrive by this afternoon.

Will have my car back Friday afternoon, new transmission and its 30000km service.

From all the stories i have heard, and everything everyone says about dealers, not the case with these guys!

One phone call, and by then everything had happened and on its way, no hassles no BS, no problems whatsoever, and the car will be there for 1 week!!!! Whole transmission work is under warranty too.

Well done power ford, very very happy :eclipsee_
Keep up the good work!
Ben

Check if you can fit an extra "transmission cooler"....The biggest you can get...The std one fitted is alittle lame....Heat seems to be the killer in these auto's...

I was under the impression these autos were sealed units.
Never saw any hoses heading from trans to anywhere else in engine bay.
Also there is no "dipstick" to check the oil...
Sure something after market can be done BUT warranty - right now i love it...

Default trans cooling lines...

Check the sides of your radiator ? There are two lines going in there and I think a line that runs across the front? [Or they maybe power steer lines?] But they have steel pipes going to radiator...Well atleast Michael's father's XR6T ute has...They often put an extra trans cooler on towing packs in the past....The dipstick omission has nothing to do with cooling lines....
Ask the guys at power anyway ???

Maybe when you pick up the car you could ask the dealer about it & to show you were it is.
