Not sure on the value of this item without the custom tune, and there doesn't seem to be any offer of a custom tune or 3 from these guys.

It doesnt include the SCT Advantage software, that is still intended for dealers (which anyone can buy however) and I believe is around $2500...

The XCal 2 is just a different flash box. It can handle high-speed datalogging via the OBD-II port and using SCT "LiveLink" software, and can support some changes to calibration via the flash device itself.

It retails for $1245. Thats $250 more than the original "XCal1" flash box (which is still available for $995)....I dont think it would be worth it for most people, but for those who are serious 1/4 mile or circuit racing people, it will be invaluable.

Be on the watch for second hand flash boxes then hey.......... they'd represent pretty good value

Alot of the die hards would go for the datalogging capability alone I would think

I'm pretty sure I won't be unless Simon convinces me that it's worth it, but all I want is the ability to tune the car- after all that still gives you more flexibility than you have without it.

For the guys that do upgrade to the ver2 I would think there'd be a fair few second hand ones for half the price or less of the ver1 units new.........

So for $500 and $300/$400 for a custom tune you'd be mad not to consider it for what a good tune offers

It's not exactly like the flash box would have ever seen a lot of use at all.

Mines been tuned then I don't touch it- most people would be the same I think

But it's only as effective as the tunes going into it.....

hey I'm not doubting there's probably more scope there, but Simon datalogs through the OBDII on the street anyway as baseline tuning and I imagine any good tuner knows what they are doing within the capacity of the ver1 flash box

I think the hardcore guys will go this way but for us plebs we probably don't really need it- it's still $250 more and you could certainly spend that on more tuning time or other mods/beer

The advantage software is 2700 dollars at the moment. The new sct 2 allows the user 10% adjustability from the cars existing air fuel, ignition, shift firmness and a few other goodies. Personally after the first flash tuner has its software never released I dont believe in retuning again. It is just too expensive for what it is.

The software for the first flash tuner called "advantage software" cost 1700 dollars.

The first flash tuner was advertised with user software which was pulled off the market as they sold the first units. This left users only to pay for tuning or buy the full 2700 dollar package on top of a 1500 flash tune.

The new flash tuner 2 allows tuning of the variables I had mentioned above. It represents good value and much better than the first flash tuner.

I am just tired of forking out cash for tuning. When I run next at wsid I am going to run 3 back to back tunes .A ford tune, intune tune and Croyden tune. The Croyden tune feels the best but it will be interesting to see in terms of timeslips what each specifically does.

Bloke like Spiro from autotech or Jim from Croydon racing developments do alot of work like that. They would be the best people to ask.I would lean towards saying that it is possible but check first.

Headsex has done that before...albiet on a BA 3V V8.

I am not aware of anyone doing it on an AU yet, I cant see why it would no be possible though. Flick him a PM.
