Default Not a GTHO but a 1971 Charger RT E38

Currently there is a 1971 Chrysler RT E38 build no 109 Charger on eBay

eBay Link

The current bidding is at $123,100 with just over 8 hours to go..........who knows what it will end up going for........

Imagine the eBay fees........lol

Presently there are a few Genuine RT's up for sale and a few of them were at the last Charger Club Show, if I owned one I would be too scared to take it out of the garage considering their value.

This is just another example of increasing values on Genuine Cars..............

Gulp! I guess all other things being equal an E49 (4 spd box) in similar condition would be worth more?

There seems to be some debate over the soaring prices of Aussie muscle cars. Worst thing is that most will become hidden trailer queens for fear of em been written off or stolen. And most of us can't afford them in our lifetime. At least ******* wont be butchering them up like they do to Belairs, Impalas and other classic yank tanks.
My old man nearly bought an original E38 spec'd VH Pacer last year... I'm wondering if hes gonna regret it in 5 years time.

Ummm...yes he will and not in 5 years time.

Also no debate, prices are soaring, they are being stored and restored. Better investment than property over the last 5 years on some modles!

I pity the person that drops so much $$$ on a car equiped with so many non genuine parts I can see in those pics. If it was an original car or close to concours condition it would be a different story.
Brake booster was definately an option on E49 but don't think it was on E38.

I reckon that there will be a few counterfeights (or cars rebuilt from a compliance plate) out there. Get the car checked before handing over $$$.

If it was a rebody the Chrysler Guys would know about it, you can't get anything past them, they even have the list of how many where made, when they were made, what options they came with etc etc very very precise.....

This auction will just go to show what a molestered car is worth, if it was all original with std block, std bore it would sell for a much higher price......

Some Chrylser guys with a hell of alot of money will just buy any RT that cames up for sale as long as it has the Original Body with ID plate and matching numbers Block, Diff & Box.

E Bay fees for vehicles are $5 listing fee and $40 selling fee, flat rate, so he's up for $45 regardless of how much the car sells for. That car is far too non-original to be worth big money.

As the layer of dust builds, so does its value apparently Its a very slow work in progress mate!

Also, that E38 has no ID plate fitted to the drivers side of the firewall, without that its worth about as much as a Charger XL with a RT paint job.

The thing is there is no id plate there at all so I would assume they removed it as there are too many criminals out there........

I removed my plate on my E31 Pacer just for that reason.

Lovely car for sure but I myself can't see why they're going for so much.
$60K, sure. $124K, not worth it at all IMO. Build a clone your way for 1/4 the price - and drive it.

Cool, I agree 100% thats a safe thing to do. But would'nt you state that in the auction? Or at least supply a photo of the ID plate or quote a chassis number?

Something about that car just dosent add up :Up_to_som

Hmmmmm - apparently its a re-body car, the donor car was a 770, the original body was junk, was purchased for $20k 3 1/2 years ago

The stripes are too Glossy, the dash colour is a bit bright BUT it does come with all the RT parts and the ID Plate

Now this makes me sad as in December I could of bought 3 Charger 770's for $15k each that had been stored in a temp controlled warehouse for 15plus years :(

Hey DRHEMI, you obviously know a heap more about Chargers than me. We have an E49 sitting in my shop so they have sorta taken my interest but i'm not really up on all the finer points.
My question is, the number that is stamped into the inner skirt, drivers side, inline with the bonnet cable and level with say the oil cap, is that the build number of the car? Or does it mean something completely different? Is there anyway to verify a genuine car from this number if no ID tag is fitted?

yeah have to aggree on this point now that the price of these cars have gone to insane levels. I have a mate who is in the process of building a xygt clone and when it hits the road the only one who will know its a clone will be him.

You would be talking about the VIN number. My knowledge is American Mopar based but if it's anything like that it should have the year, model, engine, trans and production number. All numbers must match in order for the car to be a numbers matching vehicle or "factory original" engine and trans being the money. If it's like the American VIN tags it will only contain the last several digits. Build sheet is another way but without the stamped VIN there is no way to identify the car is an original.

there is a cloud over its authenticity....some people in the mopar circles think it is a rebody......anyway the fender numbers must match the tag numbers but the motor does not match the id tags....does not mean it is not authentic.....chrysler back then just thru motors into them....also check for chalk marks under dash and glovebx ...
