I dont know if you W.A guys know it or not. Most of you will know about the few SS cop cars getting around. But i was behind a highway patrol car today and it was an XR6 Turbo. Well ill be shot in the doodle. Would of never thought this would happen. So dont try run now because there not normal 6`s anymore.
Mind you the wont be catching anybody because they will be spending more time at BP filling them up.

An atmo 6 would get to 130kph quickly and easily. Why would a turbo/V8 be needed? Maybe they are used as deterrents?

WA police arent allowed V8's so you wont see any SS around. thats the reason we got the xr6t's. The govt introduced somelegislation claiming they didnt need V8's for safe pursuits so they dont get them.

the problem with the cop cars no being Xr8 or SS isnt so much how fast they can go it's their closing speed and taxi brakes. Here in WA we have a Pre School Government policy where if 1 person does something wrong the ruin it for everyone. So if one cop crashes a V8 they are too dangerous for all police. I am glad they have Xr's now at least they wont bake their brakes trying to over drive the cars and crash when the peddel goes soft.

I'm sure you can guess the rest..... Good way to entice people to race as well. Get those hoon stats up. |

off his partner. Power slide in to a curb, launch 10 feet in to the air, before hitting a rather large tree. (at an estemated 180KPH) They've used the SV6's for some time and are now using the XR6T.

An XR6 Turbo is making 480Nm @ 2000-4250rpm. An XT is making 383Nm @ 2500rpm if its a Petrol and 370Nm @ 2500rpm if its LPG. A no-downshifts, left in top gear XR6T would match if not beat a downshifts, going for it at 110% XT 100-130km/h... let alone taking the XR6 down a few gears.... The concept of in-gear acceleration based on mid-range power delivery isn't too difficult to work out. You'll be hard pressed to find a car that will out-gun something like an XR6 Turbo in those sorts of acceleration bursts at those sorts of speeds...

Im Pretty sure the call off speed is around 160 during the day and 130/140 at night. Its to do with the visibility from the lights in conjunction with speed and blah blah.
Even so Im pretty sure that an xr6T will catch you alot quicker than an xt. And even theyll catch you pretty quickly. Its not really worth the risk of licence/life to run. As has been said the radio is quicker than the car. And if you get away theyve probably got your number plate. well your doubly stuffed then arent ya.

ok ok i give up lol :hihi:
If the call of speed is 160kph I suppose it makes perfect sense for the police to use XR6Ts. IMO, anything around the 130 mark just seems a little low to justify the need for a turbo. For example, I'm speeding at 110kph in my regular family 190kw XT. I see a cop car about 70 meters behind me. But, i'm already going 110kph and also have a 70m 'head start' so to speak. The XT is no slouch either. Chances are that by the time the copper catches up, I would already be 130kph plus. Bear in mind that this is just an example... I haven't actually tried this myself... yet :. Last edited by 3; 28-02-2007 at 10:13 PM. |

You're 70m ahead doing 110km/h speeding and floor it... policeman in XR6 Turbo is 70m behind you doing 100km/ and sees you and floors it. Before you know it, he's next to you in prime position to do as he pleases with you, a PIT manouvre for example. The performance difference is phenominal. We're talking several seconds difference 80-120km/h in-gear, which is a lifetime.

Ok, OK, all this talk of speed and how fast they can and can't go, depending on day time or nightime etc, well heres a thought to ponder...
If you're travelling at night at the speed of light in your UFO with your headlights on, can you see where your going? |
