I'm so sick of having to spend big bucks for such little performance improvements. I've figurged a minimum of $1000 for each .1 of a second quarter mile time if I want to stay naturally aspirated and thats being conservative.. So I figure I have to get forced induction for the AU series 1 forte.
The question is should I turbocharge it or supercharge it. Which way is gonna produce me more power for around 8 grand and can I get it and still be street legal. Any ideas would be great. Thanks Joel |

Put a Powerdyne or A Vortech Supercharger Kit on it , there goes $7k+ and you will have plenty of Ponies under the hood ...

Depends if your mechanically minded or not, as for a turbo set up you would be doing alot of the work yourself with $8k (depending on how much power you want etc etc)
Supercharing IMO will be alot easier and you can buy kits from CAPA and such, they are pretty much bolt on ready to go kits.

Supercharge it...
Easier to install, better power delivery and the car will remain a good daily driver. Just my opinion. |

I've done my turbo install for around $4K including exhaust. Kit $2500, exhaust + induction + intercooler pipes = $1500. I got ripped off big time on the exhaust and intercooler piping too. I could have got it for half the price down in Vic but couldn't get down there. Add ecu + tune for another $1500ish.
Only thing I've got against the turbo is if I get defected there is more stuffing around to rip it all off. Uninstall - reinstall a supercharger is all too easy. |

I once saw a twin turbo, single supercharged car. Twas a V8. Also saw an 8 turbo car too. I would be hppy for one.
Supercharge it would be great. Twin turbo's would be a bit of fun

personally, i would go turbo, as in the long run the power bug will bite and you will want to go faster, yes s/c will allow you to do that, but you need to buy bigger pullys, with a turbo you just need to increase the boost, do a little tuning and away you go....just my opinion. also no real diference between auto and manual, but you may find "turbo lag" in a manual, but if you get a BOV that will more then make up for it thats if you want to sound like a rice burner though:(

well the reason i asked is because the auto will take a lot more of a pounding than a t5. I would recommend superchager as its not to difficult for you to fit yourself and can be taken off fairly quick. As for buying new pulleys i think that would be a very small cost in the whole project and shouldnt put you off supercharge. Remember you cant just turn up the boost theres other things to consider before doing this like engine strength, Transmission, Brakes.

If your keen on super charging for ease of fitment I would go for a powerdyne. You can only go 9lb of boost but atleast there is no oil feed/return to worry about.

Hi guys just new to this site i'm thinking of turboing my series 1 fairmont just for the quick horse power i'm just getting sick on 6 ltr commodores blowing me away so i think turbo is the way to go.

go a turbo, or you can get a blower and upgrade to the turbo when you get bored and want more boost.

Id go turbo as there seems to be alot more choices with equipment you can pick from. The only prob iv found with a turbo on daily driving is if you accelerate a little too much the turbo kicks in and boots you a bit over the speed limit fairly quickly.
