Default Stall & Diff Gear Selection

Hi All,

After taking various members advise regarding the best performance upgrades for my vehicle, I am now ready to proceed.

Could anyone please advise me what Stall and Diff gear combination would be the best for my vehicle (Keeping in mind the upgrades being done - In Signature).

The car is an auto and it needs to remain a good daily driver. I also do alot of highway k's so it needs to sit at 100-110 well.

The cam produces power between 1600 and 5500.

Any assistance you could give me would be appreciated.

2500rpm stall and 3.7's would be enough.

A good rule of thumb is your stall should come in just before the cam does.

2500rpm stall and 3.7's will be the go....

If I was to do only one of the two which one would it be?

Is a Stall better then Diff Gears? Or do they need to be done together?

The size cam you have wont work with that size stall, diff gearing wont help. It will be an absolute slug. For that size stall converter you would need a cam that comes in at or around 2,500

You sure? Even the factory cam in the XR6's dont really kick in till at least 3000rpms

Hi Casper, Details of Cam are:

Crow Cams 627571 - Power Range - 1600 to 5500 Medium performance supercharger cam.

I'm sure 1600 is not the peak power area, any advise you have would be appreciated.

Casper, this is why I'm asking, I'm not sure which stall would suit the best.

Ah, didn't realize it was a V8. Still, to be honest, I will bet it is pretty doughy below 3000rpm with that cam. As a general rule of thumb most aftermarket cams will lost low rev responsiveness as a trade of for more peak power at higher revs. If your current cam doesnt kick in till around 3000rpm (as most factory cams wont) then this wont be any better and will probably be noticeably worse till you reach higher rpm's

If i was you and ya going to put a stally in then i would be putting in a more aggresive cam. Remember when they say it suits a manual it will also suit a auto with a larger stall converter. So a 621317 might be a nice combo with a 2500 stally and some diff gears.
