I reckon you'd be better off with this:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....ayphotohosting I was thinking about is as a 2nd car, but decided against it because my wife would kill me. I haven't seen it in the metal. I've had email corresponence with the seller, who reckons its all good ***except for a head gasket***. Factor in your own estimate for a head gasket repair. All up, it would come to less than $3K and would have to be better than an ex cab. |

I was only going to buy it as a spare because my car has to go into the body shop for a few weeks for a crap load of minor things - about half the panels and $4,500 of work. I was thinking of an alternative to a rental car that might be worth hanging on to as a spare. Mrs Abacus has a different perspective on these things, and keeps making mutterings about air fares and holidays. So to keep the peace, I dropped the 2nd car idea. Not entirely pussy whipped - still getting the body work done. |

this is very interesting, ex-Taxis and all,im about to get a AU Forte for a first car soon ( i been wanting a Forte for sometime now ),and i might check out some Ex-Taxis if i can find any thats on sale, but since ill have to check on so many things,im gonna have to inspect the cars real good. Around the 4k mark is great,i was expecting to spend over 10k for an AU Forte, but if i can get it for under 5k in a condition thats set for a long-term car for me,i would jump at the opertunity. But i guess for now im going to have to keep reading this thread more and search for other topics on this.

Because they have had it for 18 months and in that time have done at least $3k worth of repairs, they are selling it because it's a money pit

It seemed to me to be the sort of repairs that you would expect for a car this age ????

.....chenka, that seems like a good buy, i would also have to say that those repairs that were listed seem about right with a car of that age....... good luck with it |

I hope your estimate is right from now on, because I don't want anymore costly repairs like that again. However, I did just put the S2 SR sedan on gas, 78,000 kays for $2500. I hope that setup gives me a clean run to 500,000 and I'd be stoked! GK

My AU was an ex taxi, now has 660,000 on the clock and apart from the Torque converter needing replacing it's a bloody good car. Has had a different gearbox fitted as would be expected. I don't know if the motor has been changed as I haven't checked the numbers yet. Apparently in QLD taxi's must be replaced after 6 years use, I brought a black & white cab as I didn't want a orange car!. My car has been retired from taxi service for 12 months now and I think my Torque converter problem has been caused by towing my caravan around and not from the taxi life it lead.
High milage is ok if the car has been looked after and well serviced, my neighbour actually thought my car was brand new, it was in such good condition. Cheers Tony |

My old man sold his S2 Au taxi for $4000. The car had close to 600.000kms on the clock, it was still really nice to drive. The car was immaculate for a taxi. Dad loves his cars and baby's them, and that also included the taxi lol. For $4k i know it was an alright buy, as he's never had a problem with the car. (not like his new BF, that thing has just been a constant headache) Personally I'd never buy an ex taxi, just because of the high K's and i see how some people treat them, and how they'll only dodgy them up.
