Couple questions AU2 XR8 sedan

ok just need to clear a couple little things up...

What is the toggle button thing just above the power window switches on the drivers door?

Also, early series 2 xr8, looks like all power window switches were illuminated? Currently i only have rear passengers side working, and rear drivers (on drivers door though), so all these should be working correct?

Now the only main issue i have with the car is the diff, its only slight clunking at low speed but gives me the sh!ts a bit. This is an LSD correct?

I seem to recall reading posts of people having clunking issues with the diff no? If so whats the story? Do they shim it or something to fix it? What am i looking at?

Toggle Thing is Window Lock for Rears and Passenger ,

The Diff might need to be checked , mine will be getting Checked Friday as its Clunking in Low speeds

i dont have a xr sedan but i'm presuming the switch you talk about is to lock the power windows in the rear of the car so kids dont fiddle with them..

So its like an on and off switch?

Also with the diff, previous owner was getting the car services through ford every 15 thou, including getting pads, rotors, plugs, clutch, suspension etc replaced whenever ford said it needed it. There is documentation of the diff being "monitored", and apparantly has been for the last 40 odd thousand kays - apparantly hasnt deteriorated enough over that time to warrant repair

Yep, and the window buttons should all light up.

rear window lock so the kids dont play up-downs while you drive

Yes, all XR8's had 3.45 LSD. May also be the handbrake though, common issue. try lifting the park brake a tad for a second when it does it to see if it goes away

A lot of clunking was caused from the use of the wrong diff oil. May need to be changed. There is also an additive some people use but I cant remember what it is as I haven't had the issue yet.

yes all power switches should be iluminated

Clunk - I had this problem with mine. Still have a slight clunk (very rare ). What I did was changed the diff oil and also put in an additive which drastically reduced the clunk.

and what additive?

assume its a simple job, never done it, have a hoist which i bet would remove the hardest problem

Ford Dont have it at the Moment , as there waiting for the Additive , Its just a Screw in the Diff Housing Adam ,

I have the same thing problem with my diff. Ford put the additive in the diff & it fix it for about 20 000k. Now it's back & happily banging away again at low speed.

Yea , thats it EXP 80/90w , Ford Make their Own , thats what i used before , Its good for Manual GB's and Diff

yep thats the stuff,I transformed my XR6 ute diff noise to resonable,but I used an oil stabliser and it improved again.And of course it still locked up nicely when needed.Got any photos yet adam? or have I missed them.

The lights in the switches can be fixed with bulbs available from Tandy or Dick Smith. You need to be a little creative with these but they work great once installed.

The diff will be binding up. The noise is a semi grinding, groaning, thump. The cones in the diff are binding at low speeds during turns. Most noticeable in shopping centre car parks.

Ford go through a three stage fix for this usually at each service:

1. Change the diff oil. (Your cost)
2. Change diff oil and add additive. (Your cost)
3. Rebuild the diff. (Covered if still under warranty otherwise your cost)
