Might be a long shot, but is it possible its fuel related? My car cuts out when takign a corner hard for about a second because the fuel is thrown to the side, surge tank would fix it.
Maybe as your throwing the fuel back in 1st it gets thirsty as you get to higher revs...

I am having some problems at the moment and we have had the same problem in my partners XR8 as well...is the Cam sensor...misfires when under load and sometimes makes a squealing noise...and getting it fixed this week...is about $120 for a new sensor...but the Mechanic said he will take it out and look at it first..could just need a lube and a clean

Intank pump "sock" may be partially blocked.
My T1 is hooking first gear with over 600rwnm on R888's and no fuel surge down to at least 1/4 of a tank .......................... fuel level is not your real issue, check your sock. Daniel |

It's a common AU issue and is because of the design of the tank. As said turn the pump around and check the sock and all will be fine.
I did it and I can don't have any issues with surge even at near empty.
