ok so did all series 2/3 fairmonts (not ghia) come out in IRS LSD? reason i ask i found on for sale today checked it out its definatly LSD but cant get close enuff look coz of the rain and mud and being in work uniform to see if its IRS, the guy said its live, but i thought only series one came out live LSD?
also if $550 a reasonable price for whole diff? its done roughly 160xxx ks and didnt make a sound (so he says) cheers brad` |

Nah series II didnt have LSD in the Fairmonts - my parents used to have one.

All non-ghia fairmonts came with the exact same drivetrain as a forte. Non-VCT motor & live rear axle. LSD was an option, but who buys a Fairmont but options it with an LSD?

My AU2 Forte V8 live axle was LSD. It is an option, and smart buyers tick the box.

My Fairmont's got an LSD with the live axle. Not sure if it's original or not though.

I only thought the live rears were LSD only. $550 isn't too bad for a whole LSD assuming its a 3.45 ratio. I paid $500 from a wrecker for mine. Low miler with 3.45 ratio. Just need to make sure its in good nick and you may need to throw some fresh diff oil in.

what should i look for in terms of condition? and is there away to tell its 3.45? its a stock rock fairmont if that means n e thing id get the diff serviced when i put it in n e how so oil isnt a prob

there used to be a diff tag on the rear of the diff to tell you ratio. Well there used to be with older fords. If it came from a fairmont I doubt it will be 3.45, Possibly 3.23. When I checked the condition of mine I spun one wheel to see if the other side spun the other way. That was the main way of telling you had an LSD.
