Looking round for XR6 HP 3:45 diffs, and i can tell if its IRS or Live Axle. Any particular things to spot?
Oh and does an AU XR6 live axle diff bolt straight into an AU futura or are the mounting points different? |

Well if it's an XR6 HP it'll be non-irs, won't it? And won't an IRS diff have CV joints that bolt up to the side of the diff centre? And won't a live axle diff have the axle joined to the diff, ie a whole stub-to-stub unit? From memory they look nothing at all alike.

yeah looking for a HP diff, just i literally have no idea how to tell them apart. I dont even know what a CV joint is. Can send msgs to sellers on ebay and gumtree to ask, but thought if there was an obvious way to tell difference it would save some time

Hi Mate,
It's really simple. You'll kick yourself when you see the pics... IRS Sedan Diff UTE Diff Live Axle Sedan Diff You're after a live axle sedan diff. The XR6 HP came with a 3.45:1 ratio. And in AU1 LSD was standard. In AU2/3 LSD was optional. The sedan live axle has the watts linkage (the big chrome pin sticking out of the diff hat), upper and lower trailing arm mounts and coil spring saddles. The ute/wagon doesn't come with sway bar or watts linkage and just has saddle mounts for the hotchkiss leaf sprung rear end set-up. P.S. AU1 will fit AU2/3 and vice versa. Just gotta use your existing discs and calipers. Handbrake shoes are the same. Handbrake cables are slightly different, but again just use your own. Last edited by Jarry; 23-04-2015 at 05:00 PM. FAIL on the call about the yellow sticker. I've clearly got that wrong!!
Here is one on ebay with LSD and a white sticker... Sorry about that!! http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/LSD-diff-...item43d9c54f76 Looks as if this particular diff has a leaking pinion shaft seal too BTW. |
