Default It is driving me nuts!!!!!

Ok heres the story....1999 AU Falcon. Every bloody time it decides to rain or I wash the car, the drivers side footwell becomes all damp from the water. Now I can;t even begin to tell you where it is coming from, other than from around the brake/accelarator pedals, but up higher. I have spent hours looking for the cause of the problem, but to no avail.

Has anyone else ever had this problem? Any ideas as to what it could be?

I am sick of my car smelling like a wet towel.

Daniel

I haven't got the problem, but I suspect you have a manual?

If so, I've heard the firewall around the pedals can fatigue and crack after time due to thin metal and constant flexing under clutch pedal force.

There are several threads on the forum about this here

If you have an auto, I have no suggestions, other than checking for loose wiring grommets.....

Daniel a problem I had with my ute was very similar in nature and i tracked it back to the bonnet cable grommet in the firewall. To get a decent look at it you must have your drivers door open, get down on your knees on the ground and poke your head into the footwell. Visually follow the bonnet cable from the release lever back to the firewall and you may find that it has just not sitting in there properly. If this is the case gently pull on the trailing end of the grommet until it pops back in and seals.
Hope this might help.

Regards Tim

Ahh killer info guys, I will check it out when I get home this arvo.

So if it is a crack in the firewall, there is no real way to remedy this, other than getting it welded up? Also, re: the grommets, would it be possible that it is the clutch cable as well?

there certainly is a way to fix the crack in the flywall.. its a very common problem only with manual though.. it flexes back and forth from the clutch and eventually cracks.

Half the dash has to come out, and you will see the crack either where the pedal box is joined to the flywall, or the peddal box itself is cracked, maybe even both..

Mark from Its performance 0415 727 951 or (02) 46214178 but hes in Sydney..

not sure of where you are..

If maybe the gromet thought, and i highly doubt it would be the clutch cable

No it wouldnt be the clutch cable as it has its own little sleeve that is part of the firewall. So I'd be fairly certain that it is nt your clutch cable. I found that mine would only leak in a heavy downpour, but thankfully being an XL ute I've got vinyl flooring so it would just dry out.

A hole in the firewall shouldn't have much water coming through, Especially with a big falcon engine in the engine bay. Its not like the whole engine bay is submersed with water.

Even if a few drops got in, there is so much underlay under the carpet you shouldn;t feel it much.

Id be looking around your windscreen seals.

gday,

just fyi, was driving down the street in the pouring rain the other day, and the rain came in onto my feet (AUII xr6 manual), ИИИИed me off to high hell so pulled whole windscreen wiper motors, arms, trays out and had a look only to find 2 hours later a crack in what i like to call the aircon tray (the tray that channels the water to the sides of the car), found a crack around 10mm long, with an obvious sign it had happened in the factory due to positioning and looking like something hard had hit it, nevertheless, a bead of weld and $10 later all fixed, gotta check for these things! Bloody water! I just got rid of my XF after 5 years coz of water leaks imagine how ИИИИed i was to find this! Good luck.

The area just were the window winder come out - pul out the plastic just between the bonnet and the front window and check for rust - if you get leaves and stuff building up in there... just like I found opn my HZ when I was stripping it - massive holes above the brake pedals.
