I went for a round trip the other day to Sydney and back from wagga to pick up my nan.
I filled up with 95 octane and away i went. I reset the kms travelled and i reset the litres per 100km. After my city driving the DTE said i had only 450km to travel but as i kept driving it kept rising. When i hit 50km since i filled up i changed from average speed to DTE and almost shat myself.. It said i had 917km left in the tank. Which i didn’t believe.. i couldn’t believe my eyes. I rubbed them thinking i was asleep but no.. it said 917.. I smacked my old man on the side of the head as he was sleeping for him to have a look. When he woke up he looked at it and he too rubbed his eyes. Thinking that this was just a random load of crap and way just saying that. I changed back to the average speed. But curiosity got the better of me.. I changed back to the DTE and wanted to see if every time a km ticked over on the distance travelled if the DTE would respond.. to my surprise it did. I got to Sydney and to my nans place picked her up the drove back out. I had travelled 550km and the fuel gauge said i had just under half a tank! I was rather amazed at this.. Very scary so i took a picture as i knew nobody would believe me. I am pretty sure know one will believe me, but i really don’t mind hehe.. i got 900km for one tank, im still cheering. Cheers, Matt

Put the AU back on the market, with a new dash and advertise the fact you can get 1000k's off one tank... doesn't Peugeot do that?

Are you on your P's?? If so were you only doing the limit of 100km/h??
At 120km/h I can get about 8l/100km, so that is 850km from a tank, I am sure if I pulled it back to 100 km/h i could drop that avg to 7l/100km, and that would give me range of 971km. Hey Presto!!! I will never do it tho, on a 900 km trip from Wagga to Sydney and back, doing 100km/h makes it a 9 hour trip, doing it at 120km/h makes it 7.5, and 1.5 hours of my time is worth WAY more than 9litres of fuel!!! |

Well there you have it. Yet another person that shows the AU can actually hit the 900 mark. I'll have to take the camera out on my next Boost98 fill and take a picture. Krissy.

Edit: the conditions of the day will influence the economy alot too. Get a tailwind begind you and you can easily add another 50km to the range. A drop in ambient temperature will also boost the range of the car. |

Rathjer than seeing a DTE on the dash of 900, I would like to see the trip meter showing 900 when you fill up, and then how many litres it took. Pretty impressive though.

I get just under 100ks/tank on the TS, mind I cannot remember that last time I drove it for more than 20ks...
Thats a bloody sensational effort out of the car, for the same distance in the Territory I would need close to 2 tanks.

I believe you mate. After driving 150km from Goulburn, on the outskirts of Sydney my DTE was reading 752. And thats with dodgy spark plugs (with 2-3mm gap).

Yeah pretty standard stuff, can definitely get 900 k's out of an AU over a long distance drive.

Interesting that, shows that the much maligned BTR/3.08 ratios are useful for something.
900k's to a tank is turbo-diesel territory! Bravo, sir. |

Then how come when I posted a query about the fuel consumption in my dads AU Fairmont, and mentioned I get 700km - 750km out of my tank every week, nobody believed me? Now you have proof the AU can do some great consumption numbers.

Well best ive done is around 850km from the ute, would of been round 82 liters went in after that, and that had a bit of heavy footed driving in there as well. So personally, i see beyond 1000km from a tank as acheivable.
I also get around the 900-1000km from the tank when i add up the dte and trip meter. PS. my best DTE reading, went to geelong one weekend and then filled the car back up.

Mind you the DTE is a cheating b$%tard anyway, it will tell you a lie to make sure you dont run empty. I pulled into a servo with 5km DTE and filled up, had over 10 litres left, enough for another 120 odd km's. Expanding on whatsuperroo said, best way is to get as close to zero on the DTE, the do some maths
[trip meter] + [((remaining litres)/(avg l/100km)) x 100] eg [900] + [((10litres)/(8l/100km) x 100)] >> [900] + [125] = 1025 km's!!!! Alternatively you could just drive until you run out of fuel!!! |
